Did Microsoft 365 access change?
I am an educator and my school uses Microsoft 365. I was able to use Minecraft for Education in Fall 2020 and it was free for students at the time with their Microsoft 365 logins. Now, my students are saying it's only giving them a free trial.
Is Minecraft for Education still included with Microsoft 365 accounts, or must it now be purchased as a separate license?

I am sorry that you are having issues with the licenses. Microsoft 365 has trial licenses included with Minecraft Education being included to install. Trial licenses are login based where students get 10 logins and staff members have 25 logins. After that time a full license will need to be purchased directly from us or from a secondary partner. I hope that helps.

Hi Dominic, thank you for your reply.
Are you able to confirm that at one point in time, Minecraft: Education Edition was free with Microsoft 365 Education accounts?
For example, this article just mentions needing a Microsoft 365 login and says nothing about a trial period: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360047118652-Minecraft-Education-Edition-for-Remote-Learning
I'm just confused why my students in Fall 2020 would have access but they are now facing issues. I don't believe anything has changed with licensing at my school. I'm also still able to still use M:EE fully (v1.17.32) with my school Microsoft account, so I'm confused about why it would change for students.

I can confirm that since I started there has not been any free offer only the trial licenses that is included in certain 365 subscriptions. Your organization may have used a secondary partner that had a deal or something like that where they removed the cost if you bundled enough products, but that is not something we offer directly. My guess is that you do have licenses still, but they need to be assigned to students since you are still able to login. That may also be due to students having the 10 logins and staff members having 25 and you have not reached that 25 limit yet. The best course would be to talk with the IT Admin and see what might be going on in the backend.

Kristopher Ohlendorf - do remember that the Hour of Code worlds are available for free at all times!
I hope that you are able to consider at least a limited number of licenses to purchase. The price is very reasonable for a full year of a student seat, it seems to me. In addition, the seat may be reclaimed, and reassigned to another student during the year, so a limited number of licenses can be spread over a larger group.
I wish you well however you are able to use MC:EE.
