1.19.52 Hosting World does not work

  • This was happening to me and a few of my club mates during our meet-up yesterday. My post about this is still pending approval. We tried joining one of their worlds we had been playing on but we were unable to join, so I created my own to test it, and I got one of them in but they were unable to leave and I couldn't do anything and that saving screen happened. It was not our internet connection because our internet connections were just working just fine and so were our personal computers. The application was still running even though I could not open it.

    I told one of my other club mates who didn't join club that day and told me to end the task in task manager and that seemed to work. And everything was working again, but they refuse to believe that it wasn't the application having problems but it was us which is extremely frustrating. Because they weren't experiencing it and they weren't there when it was happening.

    If this is happening to you try going into your computer's task manager and right click "end task" for minecraft education and retry.

    I will update this comment when we have our next meet up next week to see if it actually works.

    Every time an update rolls out, I am filled with apprehension, and this time is no exception. It's hard to believe that this release came just as I was about to start a new club, especially after the previous club experienced numerous issues due to glitches in the last version. I had finally found ways to overcome those problems, but this update introduces a whole new set of challenges.

    I'm wondering if anyone has successfully hosted a world on a Windows 10/11 PC and had a child connect using an iPad? So far, I haven't been able to achieve this. PC-to-PC connections seem to work without any issues, but I'm struggling to establish a connection between a PC and an iPad.

    So the iPad version seems screwed up, if you hit the 3 dots on join world it asks for IP address and port and not the new connection ID like it does on PC. So I guess the iPad version just isn't fit for release?

    Are Microsoft not allowing us to play across devices? Please please Microsoft TEST things before you release them! And check that different devices can connect to each other, it was the first thing I tested and it took me 10 minutes to figure out it didn't work!

    Ok all that I rebooted the ipad, still didn't work, I then killed the app multiple times and then it did connect. Very weird. At least I know it's possible, but it doesn't fill me with confidence. There is a problem though that the iPad version does not have the ConnectionID implemented and still tries to use the old IP address for an alternate way to connect, which is no longer supported.

    Hmmm...yeah multiplayer games seem glitchy at best and I haven't even tested this with the 15 kids at the club tomorrow, this is just with 3 at home! Just when I had figured out the problems with the last version. Please fix Microsoft.

    Ok yeah thats a new one I've never seen on ANY version of MCEE. The ipad was connected, BUT it could only see 2 players and yet the PCs saw 3 players. The 2 on PC could see the other 2 players, but the ipad player could not. What is going on!!!

    Ok reconnected and working, but this DOES NOT fill me with any confidence for tomorrow.

    Hi all, thank you so much for your detailed reports.  We are actively looking into these issues and your comments are helping us focus.  If you would be willing to provide more details it will help us identify the root causes of these issues:

    • I've seen a few references to the fact that the iPads have reverted to connect by IP.  Could someone post a screenshot and/or link to a video showing this?
    • David Renton you mentioned seeing traffic to a ticktok domain.  Was it associated with the Minecraft Education traffic?

    We can’t join a world and no none can join the worlds we create either -  iPad 8 gen using iPadOS 16.1. Going to update the OS and see if it works. We play using join codes with kids in a number of different cities who attend our online school. We reinstalled minecraft, rebooted, tried new codes etc.

    I figured out the solution. All devices needed to be on the same build (v1.19.52) for the students to join. Some students today were able to join but the world would break as soon as one student joined that hadn't updated. Those who were initially able to join faced issues such as their inventories not opening, world chunks not loading, and other students being unable to connect. The problem was traced to students who had not updated their minecraft program, causing everything to freeze. To resolve the issue, all devices were manually updated through the Google Play store, enabling all students to join the PC-hosted world.  If even just one student is on v1.18.45, it will break for everyone.

  • Hello, I am trying to create/host a Minecraft World and it's currently not working, I already looked through the articles but they aren't working. I have restarted it multiple times and doesn't work. I am also on 1.19.52. Here is the error I am getting:

    Greetings, everyone.

    I've been experiencing these same issues that were described here, but they also happen when hosting for only three students yesterday.

    Justin we've been running the worlds without any major issues for more than a year, on Dell notebooks running on 8thGen Intel i7 and 8gb of RAM, without GPU, with Windows 10 Pro. If you could open a ticket, I can try to record the screen in order to share it to you.

    Thanks, and I hope a solution is found soon.

    Hey Penny, for some reason I wasn't seeing all the replies when I sent mine, and that's why I @d Justin and not you, who'd just replied in.

    Anyway, I'll test Ryan Ginn's solution, but I'm pretty sure that we ran a test yesterday in which all five PCs were in the current build (v1.19.52) and still experienced the same main issues:

    • Difficulties (or impossibilities) in joining the world;
    • When entering, characters appearing frozen to one another, and the changes made in one device not showing in other;
    • Unable to open inventory in most joined devices;
    • Commands not working;
    • Exiting the game hangs at the "saving, do not turn off your machine" screen.

    I will try anyway to take some time to record the screens this afternoon or tomorrow morning to share with the Support Team. Thanks again.

    Vulpecula (Little Fox) I temporarily fixed that error by restarting minecraft on my laptop or iPad, but it will come back!

    Thanks Benjamin Miller !  We've also seen reports that re-starting devices can help reset everything and get everyone back up and working.  The engineering team is actively investigating why a user on a different version that tries to join a world is able to affect the session so profoundly.

    Thanks Arthur Massola, I've created a ticket!  You can reply to the email you receive with screen recordings and fiddler traces, if you are able to collect them.

    Hi Sydney Munsterman - We've seen reports that re-starting devices can help reset everything and get everyone back up and working.  If this doesn't work, let us know and we'll investigate further.

    Running an after school program for 8 year olds.... The world they have been working on is unattainable due to this issue.  Hoping for a solution quickly as I meet with these same kids tomorrow!

    One main thing is that all users must be on the same client version. With the new build release, user's client versions have a great impact on the experience on multiplayer.

    A teacher I'm working with is also having the same issue with students not being able to join his Minecraft EDU-hosted world. The students are able to see the name of the teacher's hosted world after typing in the join code, but they get stuck on the loading screen where it says "connecting to multiplayer game" and then times out. We were able to have 2 students join the teacher's world, but after that, everyone else had issues.

    I submitted a support ticket through the chat agent, but I'm also posting here for visibility. Everything was working fine until the update from last Friday took place.

    EDIT*** 1 hour later, the 2nd class came in. Some students had 1.18 and 1.19 on their chromebooks. We walked them all through uninstalling and re-installing as well as restarting, every single student of the 30 students were stuck on "connecting to multiplayer game"

    This would indicate that there may be a filter that needs some settings adjusted. Can you let me know if any antivirus programs or content filters are in place, like an extension that is installed? If you use a phone network/different network change the issue at all? Are the students able to login to another Microsoft product like teams or word with the same account? What is the CBs OS version?

    We've confirmed that our content filter is not blocking anything during the connection attempts. Unless Minecraft EDU changed its requirements since the most recent update, the firewall shouldn't be causing the problem. Before the 1.19.52 update was released, we didn't have any issues. Students have no issues signing into Minecraft EDU and they can join other worlds that other students host, but they are not able to join the teacher's world. The students chromebooks are pinned to the 108 LTS version while state-wide testing goes on.

    Hey all!

    Just wanted to confirm, could you please double check every single user, host and joinees, are all on 1.19.52? It could take just 1 user joining from an outdated client to make everything go haywire.

    Please let us know, then we can dig into other options.

    Danny I have 360 students in my building each week doing a Minecraft unit for the last two weeks - all of the iPads have been updated to 1.19.52 - I've double checked all of them.  All of them were updated to 1.19.52, then I completely shut all of them off, all apps closed, and restarted.  None of them seem to be able to join a world I host from my windows 10 laptop.
    My system build is 10.0.19044 Windows 10 Education.  I'm on a Dell Latitude 3310.
    The iPads my students use are iPads 7, 8 and 9.  All running IOS 16.3.1.
    (Curiously, I am unable to reproduce these errors on any of my iPads running the previous IOS).

    We've checked the filters and network settings - nothing has changed at all on our end and we don't see anything different coming from Minecraft.

    Like Aaron Long we had no issues in the building (or district) with Minecraft 1.18.45.

    My windows 10 laptop has the same issues written about above - on exit the screen says my world is saving and the program will do that forever unless you close the instance through task manager.  I have some students who try to load and it times out.  Some that load but can't open their inventory.  Some that load but the world isn't generating all of the chunks in the world.

    I've gone through and looked to see if there's a latency problem and can't find anything.  Restarting all devices usually works once if I host a world on another iPad, but nothing seems to let me host a world from my laptop successfully.  Sometimes restarting the iPad only works for a short while before we get more of the inventory and chunk problems.  Some of the student's are getting an "Unable to connect" trying to join each other's worlds as well.

    Last - is it normal to get the "Loading Resources..." and then "Done!" screen after Exiting a world?  I normally get those screens loading a world but I don't remember seeing either of those screens after clicking Save & Exit.

    This afternoon, we went to work on our shared town community and no one could join my hosted world. Connections timed out, and the couple of people who could sign in were unable to access controls or inventory. My MEE also stalled when trying to save and exit. Some of my students could host other students, though. I'll add that I was also using a student device (due to a district-blocked port we cannot use our teacher devices to host). We restarted and reloaded and tried again and again but to no avail.

    Issues like this are hugely problematic when you are trying to help 30 students troubleshoot for at least a half-hour and then we don't even have time to do what we needed to do.

    Hey all -

    So sorry for the multiplayer issues, and we realize how problematic this can be when classes are so short, there is no time for trying to connect multiple times and restarting devices. We are receiving reports of multiplayer not working for some users since the update, and the team is still investigating.

    Benjamin -

    So Ipads with IOS before 16.3.1 are not running into this issue at all?

    Feel free to send a screenshot (without personal info) of the loading resources...Done screen. It does not sound too abnormal, but it would be good to check.

    Thanks so much for all the info.

    Amanda -

    Were all hosts and joinees on the latest version? There are some known issues listed here: What's New in the Wild Update (v1.19.52) – Minecraft Education that occur if not everyone has updated.

    For those students that could host, what device and OS were they on? Same as the others?

    Hi Danny--thanks for this. Based on that info I'm pretty sure it's the "different versions" issue. Our district doesn't allow for me/our school to do updates and I have to wait for a tech to come to our site to do them. Also, our laptops need to be completely shutdown for the automatic updates to be pushed down and I'm pretty sure some students aren't doing proper shutdowns to allow for that to happen, and that's how we are ending up with different versions. At least before, it appeared that older versions didn't throw everything out of whack, however.

    The students who could host were on our student Lenovo laptops (Win 10)--we are not a BYOD school, so all devices are the same. Additionally, the device that I host from is also a student device (due to the blocked port that does not allow me to share from my teacher device to student devices). It is possible that the students with whom the student-host was sharing all had updates, though, and so they were not disrupted by older versions.

    If all the versions match, it may be due to a content filter. There might be a scan occurring when hosting where an antivirus program is scanning Minecraft Education continuously.
