    Update 12/14/2021

We have released a hotfix (v1.17.31) on Chromebook, Windows, and Mac which once downloaded, should fix the downloading resources issue for a majority of devices. If the issue persists, it will allow you to skip past the downloading resources screen.

The hotfix for iOS will roll out later this week. Thank you for your patience in this. View this link for info about how to update your Minecraft: Education Edition. If your issue persists past the hotfix and you cannot progress, please let us know in the threads of this post.

    Edit 12/3/2021

    More good news everyone!

This is Andrew from the support team with another update.

We will be releasing a fix soon. While do not have an ETA for this patch, it will be for all platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, and iOS). We just need a little more time to get it ready.

This has been a lot of trouble for many of you and for that we again offer our apologies. Your patience as a community has been amazing. We appreciate all the technical information that you've sent us as well as the trace logs. Getting this far wouldn't have been possible without your help.

We do have a current work around we recommend for Windows users. First, navigate to:

    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\minecraftpe\DownloadTemp\

    And delete this file: download_state.json

This may take multiple tries, but our team was able to reproduce the issue and fix it with this. Deleting this file may help other versions as well. I'll update all of you once I have more information. Thank you for your patience and your love of Minecraft: Education Edition!

Dear Colleagues, it seems I've found a workaround. At least it worked for me. Not sure for how long it will last though but it's worth trying.
    1. Uninstall v 1.17.30.5

    2. Delete the folder in Program Files (I also deleted everything in AppData/Roaming but we had the worlds exported recently, so it was safe to do. If you haven't done it you will lose the worlds, so try the trick without doing it).

    3. Install v 1.14.70.0

    4. Run v 1.14.70.0 and make sure it works

    5. Install v 1.17.30.5 on top (upgrade)

    6. Enjoy watching the kids scream in excitement. Not sure for how long, but we tried to turn it off and on again a couple of times, it still works.

HUGE thanks to Nick Baskakov! This workaround actually worked, and I'm finally back in the game!
I will try to spread the word and prepare to go through these steps with some dozen students in the next couple hours.

Sure hope MS steps up their game and fixes this mess. I am not looking forward to the forced Mojang account transitioning if this is an indication of the quality of their services...

Here's a .BAT program that downloads and installs v1.14.70 automatically. Works only on W10 AFAIK, and requires admin rights:
    https://downloads.minecrafteduservices.com/retailbuilds/Win10/Minecraft_Education_Edition_Win10_Installer.1.14.70.zip

Alternatively, the good ol' .EXE installer. This one works with W7 as well:

This is happening to me too. Its really irritating I've tried repairing the app via app settings, terminating all its processes, closing everything else on my computer, restarting etc. I even deleted it and reinstalled it. still nothing. Please fix this ASAP!!!!

We're currently aware of an issue on devices that is preventing users from updating and loading Minecraft: Education Edition. This issue shows the message "Downloading resources."

We're currently investigating this issue and will update this thread when we have a workaround or a fix. Please do not start new threads about this issue. Thank you for your patience while we work on this.

Just adding here that the Password creation is still broken in 1.17.30 on a Windows 7 PC.

All four slots just give X and there's a red !-symbol on top, telling about error. This does not seem to happen on my W10 laptop, which I'd rather not use for hosting games.

Another thing to add, even though the work around works for solo users, when teaching through one server all the students need to be on the same version --> Minecraft Education ed. v1.17.30. As that is the latest automatic update we had.

But with the latest update we have had the same issue with this one, for quite a few students the game is stuck on "Downloading resource". Yes it works for solo users, however, for a class no.

We still need to have a better option than that.

    Hi everyone,

We are aware of this issue and our engineers are currently investigating it. Some of our users have had success by trying to update the app from different networks (where possible).

For Windows users, there is currently a hotfix available that bumps the version number from .5 to .52, and some users have reported this works. You may need to uninstall your current version of Minecraft: Education Edition to do so. We recommend manually backing up your worlds before doing this.

For Windows and Mac users, world files are stored in the following directory on your device:

    C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\Roaming\Minecraft Education Edition\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds

    HD > Users > <user name> > Library > Application support > Minecraftpe > Games > com.mojang

    1. Find the world directory you'd like to transfer. Each world resides in a directory that has a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols as its name.
    2. Enter that directory and select all the files and folders inside the directory. not the directory itself.
    3. Archive these files and folders into a single .zip file. This must be a .zip file, as .rar or .7z will not be recognized by the app.
    4. Change the zip file extension from .zip to .mcworld

For those of you who are using the hotfixed version and still receiving this issue, please contact us via ticket and we'll provide steps on how to provide us a network trace. Thank you!

We have the same problem at our school.  I can see the post from Andrew L from 2 days ago that says there is a hotfix, but there is no link to the hotfix???  Am I missing something?  Please tell us how to resolve it.

  • J P

Jess Mitchell, you need to manually download the latest version from the MC Education Editions homepage, and re-install the game:

    https://education.minecraft.net/en-us/get-started/download

No quick fix-only file has been provided.

Jess Mitchell You need to run the installer as an administrator. Right click the installer and go to 'run as administrator'
