Hi, I'm having problem launching Minecraft Education edition (1.20.12) on Mac OS Sonoma 14.0. It's a fresh download (never run MEd on this mac) and it got stuck after login (see screenshot).
The login details is definitely correct since I can log into MEd on my iPad. Any ideas how to diagnose the issue?
I am currently investigating this issue. Did this problem occur following any updates to your OS or the app? Is this a school managed device? Are you on a school network?
Could you temporarily uninstall any potential Antivirus that may be installed? Also, can log in if on a separate network such as a wireless hotspot?
I am having the same problem. I am with LAUSD. Just updated Mac to Sonoma. There are no Antivirus apps on the computer. LAUSD manages everything. Minecraft Education, I have not been able to make it work outside of the LAUSD network, but has always worked fine within the LAUSD network.
So its still working on the LAUSD network, but is no longer working on your home network, correct?
Is your device managed by LAUSD by chance?
Also, what happens if you try connecting via a wireless hotspot? (make sure the device is not connected to a wifi network) I ask this, because wireless hotspots typically do not have any restrictions on the network that could possibly be blocking connections.
It is not working on the LAUSD network, nor has it worked in a long time outside of the LAUSD network. I am not concerned about outside LAUSD. I only want to figure out how to make it work with my class. Thank you.
Another detail. The screen freeze like above post; in addition, I cannot quit in the program. I need to use the force quit command to stop MinecraftEd.
Ive seen this happen to a few users now after updating on their Macs. Could you try deleting the resource pack on the device and start it over? You can find it here: HD > Users > <user name> > Library > Application support > Minecraftpe > com.mojang
The easiest way to get to the correct location is with the Go command in Finder. so just press Command-Shift-G and then paste the target directory ~/Library/Application Support/minecraftpe/games/com.mojang and press Enter.
I am having the same problem. I tried deleting the resource file and starting over. It gets as far as downloading resources window and then freezes!!! Please help.
Try going into your worlds folder, copying all of the folders, remaining them to (WORLDNAME).mcworld (Replace WORLDNAME with a name that’s in the levelname.txt file or one that you can remember), uninstalling the game, and reinstalling.
I am having this problem too. I am currently using a MacBook Pro with the M2 Max chip. Minecraft Education was working fine on my old 2019 MacBook Air (and still works fine, i checked when I tested turning off SSO for my account on my old MacBook and logging out which did not fix the problem). The main difference between the two MacBooks is firstly that the old one has the old Intel chip architecture while the new one has the new ARM architecture (seen from M1 chips and above), and my old MacBook is running MacOS Montery 12.6.8 while my new MacBook is running the new Sonoma 14.1.1 version. So i believe the cause may either be the chip architecture, or the update since that is the most common trend between the forum posts I have seen. please update as soon as a solution is found and thanks in advance.
I tried clearing the contents of ~/Library/WebKit/com.microsoft.minecraftpe but I still ran into the issue. If by proxy you mean a VPN, then no I am not using a Proxy, however if you mean a firewall, yes I am using a firewall but the security firewall I am using (Eset) was and is installed on both my old and current macbook and again I never had any issues with it.
A VPN and a proxy a bit different and a proxy can be used as a firewall, but it is different than a device level firewall. If you could, follow these steps below so we can get a bit of clarification on this situation:
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Network in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click a network service on the right, then click Details.
I am having the same problem, when I deleted resource packs it got stuck while downloading the resource pack. I also reinstalled Minecraft education, but this issue still presists.
Here are the proxies that come with my Eset Cybersecurity Pro installation. But once again this is installed on both my new and old MacBook and I never had any issues with it on my old one (and still don't). I also tried disabling them and trying minecraft again but I still ran into the same issue.
There seems to be a possible conflict between certain Macs and some proxy services. Thats why I was hoping you could tell me the model of your previous Mac.
I checked my proxies and none are on. I use a Mac 2020 M1 with the MacOS Sonoma operating system. It downloaded the resource packs after I deleted them and got to this page, but then froze.
I am having this issue as well. I am using an M2 Pro MacBook and have tried it on my old 2013 i5 MacBook Pro. It works just fine on the 2013 model, but I did something different on that one. I unchecked the remember me switch and when it boots, the Microsoft Login popup appears for a log in, while the game remains in motion in the background. Both are on the same wireless network, using zero proxies.
These activities have led me to believe the auto-login might be a contributing factor to this issue. I have tried relentlessly to delete my profile information by deleting the Application Support, Preferences, Caches, et al. files, to no avail on the M2 model, but I cannot get my profile to reset. I was able to re-enter my credentials once before by corrupting the startup with a force-quit, but I am having trouble replicating that success.
Where would the location for this information exist?
If you'd like more info, let me know. I can provide Wireshark captures (you can provide filter parameters if you wish), Mac Console captures, the works. I'd like this to work as I have begun teaching and am now the STEM teacher for my elementary students.

I finally found the login token. It is in the Keychain app (MEETokenCache). I deleted it and opened MEE, and it did prompt me for a login once again, but to no avail. After I logged in, the game was still frozen. The experimentation continues.
What is strange is that when I deleted everything in~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraftpe/games/com.mojang/minecraftpe and tried opening it again, it automatically and sucessfully logged me in, but got stuck at the "downloading resources" loading page. So its possible that the issue is not with the logging in, but rather the downloading of the resources itself no?
@Ryan - I agree. I was following a suspicion, but it turns out that I was wrong. After some trial and error, I agree that the issue is indeed related to the downloading of resources. There are times when the game will freeze entirely, but there are also times where the music will begin to play in the background of a frozen screen.
I've gone so far as to take a copy of the resource folder from a working instance on an Intel Mac and paste it into the proper place on my M2 Mac. I didn't get any notification about Global Resource Reset, but the game remained frozen immediately on startup.
I've gotten MEE to successfully open on my M2 once after force-quitting it during a previous startup attempt. I haven't been able to recreate that scenario, so I'm unsure of what caused it to function correctly that single time.
After further experimenting today MEE consistency logged me in and got to the home page (without me changing or deleting any files) but eventually crashed afterwards. So I tried running the app from the exe file (found at: /Applications/minecraftpe.app/Contents/MacOS/minecraftpe ) to see what output it would give:
and as you can see on the last line (the bottom) there is the error: -IMSACHttpClient requestCompletedWithHttpCall:data:response:error:1/149 HTTP call failed with error: Could not establish secure connection. and the game crashes when this error comes up (but sometimes when trying to repeat it the error does not come up, the time it does not come up is usually when the app is prompting me to login again then it crashes in the middle of logging in). But I believe this could be an/the issue but I have no idea how to fix this, I think its up to the engineers from here. Also please note that after using the exe file to run the game, the game no longer automatically logged me in and asked me to sign in again, even when running the game normally from the app the same occurred afterwards as if the log of my sign in was deleted (and when double checking keychain access the MEE token was still there which I thought was strange).
Hi, I think I'm experiencing a similar issue. Trying to install a fresh installation first got stuck during login, as mentioned at the start of this thread. After deleting the content from `~/Library/Application Support/minecraftpe`, `~/Library/Application Support/minecraftp` and `~/Library/WebKit/com.microsoft.minecraftpe`, restarting the runnable got me to the home page (login done automatically) and the application freeze after a few seconds.
