Minecraft Education on macOS 13 Ventura
We have a few users that have updated to macOS Ventura and Minecraft Education, 1.18.42, doesn't work. The app will open and the login screen will appear and even take credentials. The problem is that after taking credentials nothing happens, the app just sits there.
I am even unable to simple quit the app, when I try nothing happens. I have to perform a force quit just to close the application.
If I then launch the app again it will auto login the user but freeze after that. I have seen it freeze at saying who is logging in, it has frozen at downloading resources.
This is on a device with no internet filter to be blocking anything.

We think that there is something going on between communication with OS versions (Chromebooks as well) and the graphics coding. The Devs are working with other companies including Google to get this resolved quickly. I have not been given an ETA, however.

Hey there Kevin,
Sorry to hear about the login issues.
Is this with school managed devices on a school network?
Have we tried a different network to see if we get the same result?
Are there any devices that do login properly on the network, and if so what are those specs?

I tried two different network, one was completely open to the Internet with no filter or firewall.
The devices that I know of that are working are all still running macOS 12.

Hi Kevin,
have you had any progress with regards to resolving the issue?
I had wondered whether there was something else about the Mac environment that may be the cause/source of the issue.
I know for example that shortly after I upgraded to Ventura on My Mac, that I also updated My Java version (due to something else that was not working).
I am wondering whether that is the cause, perhaps in concert with the OS upgrade.
I am running Java version 1.8.0_351-B10 (most recent as of right now)

Took me a few days to get all the testing done that I wanted.
Here is what I have found. If I took a device running macOS 12.6.0 or 12.6.1 and then upgraded to macOS 13.0, Minecraft would freeze after launching. I tried this multiple times and even installed Minecraft before updating. Minecraft worked fine on macOS 12.6 and 12.6.1 but as soon as I upgraded to macOS 13 Minecraft would freeze after launch.
I then tested devices with fresh installs of macOS 13. These devices ran Minecraft without issue. Tried this multiple times as well.
So it seems the the problem with Minecraft Education Edition is with devices ungraded from macOS 12.6 or 12.6.1 to the latest macOS 13.

Hi Kevin,
so, if I am reading this correctly, it has something to do with the changes that take place as a result of upgrading to MacOS 13 (Ventura) from specific versions of MacOS 12. Very specific instances/situations. But helpful.
Now if only Mojang and or Apple could work out why and sort a fix for it. I don't really want to have to wipe My Mac and start from scratch.

Is there any update in relation to this issue?
I have not seen or heard anything in quite some time and would like to know if there is a fix for this.
I note that the version for download is still the same.
Please advise.

The coding issue is still being worked into the game but still no ETA. We also released a new Beta today that we are having users try out on test devices to gather more information and as a potential solution. You can get the Beta from here: Download Minecraft: Education Edition Beta – Minecraft: Education Edition Support
