Absolutely! I have a world I've been working on for some time too. I'm in the habit of exporting it after every session as it's become fairly extensive.

Might be an issue with the installation. Have you tried uninstalling Minecraft and reinstalling? Are you installing from the Store or the download from the Edu site?
