Minecraft EDU not showing in iPad settings

Sometimes things are puzzling! Have you recently installed, or recently updated? Are your devices managed? Do they have different profiles? If you log onto their devices with your account, does it change what shows up?

Just trying out some troubleshooting questions. Let me know how it goes.

On our managed devices, some changes take time, and need to be restarted, plugged in, logged in or not logged in! to take effect. (who can figure, but that's the way it seems to be!)

Hey, Deborah. It certainly is puzzling. The student iPads are managed, but mine is as well, and Minecraft EDU is showing in the settings for mine, and for one student, but nobody else's. The installations are a mix of those who have installed from the app store and those who have installed from our MDM. Everyone's running the latest version, so they have been updated reasonably recently, but it must have been a few weeks now since that update. It wouldn't bother me but some of them are having trouble joining each other's worlds, which is really something I'd like to get on top of.

Oh my goodness! I have a hard enough time running the MDM without keeping track of some devices having different installs! yikes!
I will check a couple devices over here.
Do you have profiles for your iPad home screen and such? Are your wifi systems on multiple nearby access points? I have trouble when devices move from one access point to another, sometimes.

Yes. Students with their own Apple IDs can choose to install from the App Store. The MDM will then offer to manage the app for them, but they can decline. I don't know if they do or not. Most of the installations will be from the MDM though, as at least half the devices I was dealing with today were school-owned, so don't have App Store access.

In the building I was working in today there would be maybe a dozen WAPs and the devices this afternoon would have been switching between two or three of them.

I have a distant memory of Minecraft EDU not showing up in the settings a couple of years ago, but thought that had been fixed along with an issue I was having with the app chooser (but maybe I dreamed that).

    Thanks for checking it out.

I just went back through my emails and I did have a similar issue in late 2019 with Minecraft EDU not showing up in the list of apps in settings. It was an issue with the File Picker (not app chooser, there's no such thing). The next update fixed it for me, but obviously not for everyone.

I have one of our managed iPads here at home. Minecraft does not show up in the settings. It is the case that several of our applications do not show up there. I have no idea why. However our environment is very different from yours. It would be impossible for me to use my personal Apple ID and try to install an application on one of our iPads. All of that stuff is locked down by our device management settings. It sounds like your environment is much more complex. I do not know how this would affect world sharing. I'm not sure even what data to collect to find out. I thought that if you were just on the same server that would be enough. However with my experience on the iPads throughout this year I would be willing to be suspicious enough that there's a lot more going on. We definitely encountered a lot of needing to restart when moving from one access point to another. We also found the need to restart just in general. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help and I wish you well.

Thanks, Deborah. I'll keep digging around and see what I can find. I've asked our IT Admins if we can somehow alter the setting that we need in the MDM. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.

  • In case of network problems,  go to => Settings => Privacy => Local Network  and activate Minecraft Edu

Thanks, Rüdiger. That's perfect. When I have the kids back in front of me I'll give it a try and see if it works for them.

    Much appreciated.
