Hi there Johnathen Duncan. In this case I'd contact your school's IT administrator and have them allow the sites in the pinned comment.

I am getting the error message that the student can not connect inconsistently on Chrome OS.  If I remove the student's account and re sign in, it works and I am able to access the Microsoft screen. The majority of students have no issue, but it randomly happens here and there.  If I remove the student's account it disrupts other learning tools and deletes progress from minecraft/saved work. Please advise.

    Hey!

Experiencing the issue mentioned here (I'm an educator). Seeing how our computers are entirely new, there are no other known version on the laptops we've received. We're talking about brand new ones. Out of 22 students, only 14 managed to get in on the servers I put up. They keep receiving the "can't connect to world" message. My personal version is also up to date, I have checked, and seeing how a portion of my students manage to get in, the version is out of question here.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, I've tried other worlds, I've tried remaking worlds and seeing how all our game versions are the same, I'm left in question as to what the problem truly is. Our school has never blocked out anything related to Minecraft as we don't really do the "blocking out"-stuff.

Not sure what to do. Can't really seem to find something to explain this issue properly, as the answers in this thread doesn't work/apply to what we're working with (as mentioned, brand new computers).

I have talked to My school tech people twice. They have allowed all websites listed. They have even looked at the individual students' accounts that are having the log in issue and could not find anything on their end that would cause the problem. Andrew L closed my ticket as resolved during my Thanksgiving break. Has anyone found a solution yet? I don't believe the support can aid us at this point.

  • I have been working with my IT department to get MEE onto my students' chromebooks since early October. We finally got the app installed and it was working.... but then the update happened. And students haven't been able to login on their chromebooks ever since.

We have whitelisted all of the URLs as listed, we have tested everything we can think of, but we're using a proxy (iBoss) to content filter - as we're required to do as a district. This cannot be removed. I'm incredibly frustrated since I have been doing remote learning since the beginning of the year and do not see us going back, even hybrid, anytime soon. MEE was my plan for students to actually plan, design, and build using the engineering design process - I teach Engineering. I work in an urban school district - I don't have any other options for materials or computers.

We're going to be trying removing their accounts from the chromebook and reloading them, but is that still a working solution?
Thank you. I have planned the rest of the year with this, and I don't have any other ideas currently.

Bryan Sanders (archived) I have a support ticket already with Kyle-M - we'd been discussing potential reasons for it being blocked. It does seem like *potentially* removing a student's account from their school chromebook and reloading it and all programs might be the solution. One student has tried this and now can login, but I need to test it with more students before I would consider that an actual fix.

Would they need to do this every time MEE updated? That would be incredibly frustrating as I would also need to teach them how to save backups of their worlds...

I have gone back and forth with support, and IT.  I can not get it to work consistently on Chromebook.  I have just decided to not use it, which is a HUGE let down.

  • Nathan Breitholtz I'm too stubborn and I have extremely few if not absolutely no options for something like this. Engineering is hard enough normally, but remote so much of what I normally do is out the window. I'm going to keep trying and figuring out how to make this work. The excitement of my high school juniors is so high that I cannot let them down with giving up.

I totally understand though. If I had any other options, I would take them at this point.

Bryan Sanders and Danielle Chronister I am determined to make this work!  URLs all unblocked, update settings are open, and students still get the can not log in error.  It works on many computers, but multiple they have to remove their account from the Chromebook and then re-login, and download Minecraft.  Then it works fine for a few days.

HELP PLEASE! We bought a bunch of licenses and I really want to use it.

It sounds like some of these Chromebooks might be behind a proxy. Unfortunately, login for Chromebooks behind a is not available at this time.

Hi, i'm running into this similar problem. When trying to resolve minecrafteduservices.com it does not even exist. Not from my network, nor from an external DNS lookup like mxtoolbox.com.

What is going on here Microsoft? how do we get our students ready for Silicon Valley?

    Best regards. Ruud

Ruud Boersma - for your issue with that website, it won't load a website. It's just for the proxy settings to whitelist. My IT department did that and it did help us get through to logging in.

So, here's what I have been doing with my students. They have ASUS chromebooks, and we do still sometimes have to remove their profiles and reload everything. BUT something I have been having all of my students do, regardless of their device, is get used to exporting their worlds and saving them on their Google Drives. That way, even if they have to remove their profile, they can just reload their world. Losing some progress is better than losing all of it.

Also, if you right click on the icon in the shelf, you should open the app info. You need to have the Permissions for Storage turned on. If it's not, that's part of the reason we have seen the "cannot connect to service" error. They turn on that setting, restart their chromebook, and then usually that fixes it.
However, I cannot take credit for figuring that one out - one of my parents did! I'm super grateful to her :)

I'm really hoping Microsoft can figure out this issue for the next major update - my students have been loving this but the technology issues have been frustrating.

Nathan Breitholtz Bryan Sanders (archived) I know these solutions aren't perfect, but I refuse to loose out on using this resource. I'm even getting my resistant "I don't play video games" students into it. The technology problems are really disappointing, but we have been making it work. I've had to go to a few students' homes to fix it, and I generally get it working in 1 or 2 goes (sometimes I can even figure it out via Google Remote Desktop).

Kyle-M is the Microsoft Minecraft team looking to resolve this issue for the next major update? Because I'm planning on using this every school year moving forward and I would really prefer to not have to constantly deal with these issues.

Ok, i found the solution for my problem. For some reason when installing the desktop version the wiondows store version is also installed. It is exactly the same version, but when uninstalling the desktop version using add/remove software i found that minecraft was still installed. When i executed it, it started the same v1.14.50 version and it could connect without any issues. Beats me how this happened, and more important why there are inconsistenies between the both.
