Setting up a Hosted Game
Afternoon,
When I try to create a world for my students to share I seem to have issues with the Hosting part. Strangely, some students in school with me and some remote can join but it seems to prevent the vast majority.
Is there a fix for this (I've tried sharing both the code and IP details but no success). Is there an alternative to having to host in the educational version to ensure all the students see the same map and i can walk around accessing their work?

I've had similar problems as well. If you haven't already, I'd suggest first checking the Troubleshooting > Connection Issues section of the official multiplayer guide - https://education.minecraft.net/wp-content/uploads/Minecraft-Education-Edition-Multiplayer-Guide-1.pdf
Another issue I've noticed is when many players try joining at the same time. Sometimes, you'll need to wait a minute, then try connecting again using the same code.
One other thing to check is if all students using their school Office 365 account.

We have suffered major connection-issues as well. No one seems to be able to join each other. We believe the firewall may cause the issue - so we will see.

Hello Everyone,
I would suggest setting up port forwarding on the host internet connection. This article talks about it: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360047118592-How-to-Set-up-a-Multiplayer-Game-at-Home

You know...... it could be. I didn't realize that Mac and PC wouldn't work together (now you say that it sounds obvious though)
cheers :-(

Hi there this is Andrew from the community team! I just wanted to add a quick note that students on all platforms - PC, Mac, iPad, and Chromebook - are able to connect and play together regardless of their device as long as they are on the same version. I hope this helps!

Here's what I've experienced...
I can host a world from home using version 1.12.60 with port forwarding setup and students were able to join my world (as long as they were on 1.12.60, this was back in August before the update).
I can now host a world from home using version 1.14.31 WITHOUT any port forwarding setup, and students can still join my world.
Students can host a world from their home on version 1.14.31 and other students, and myself can join their worlds. When I went to campus however, students were NOT able to join my world very reliably. I believe the district has firewall/network settings messing with the connection from outside addresses. I can have students in class join with me fine, but that's because we're on the same network.
I was able to have students host worlds for their group, and then I was able to actually join into each one from school using multiple computers in my lab, so I was in 6 worlds at the same time working with my students at home!
We have also found that if you get the Unable to Join World message, usually just restarting Minecraft will fix it. Occasionally, I have had to restart Minecraft on my computer for students to be able to join the world.
Hope this helps.
