I can't join my friend even though we are on the same wifi.
I can't join my friend inside a world and we were connected on the same wifi. We didn't need to update it but we never got able to join.

Multiplayer across different internet connections is possible as long as the criteria in this article is met. Keep in mind that every network is different, so it's possible that some players may not be able to join a multiplayer session from their respective networks due to distinct configuration settings. Our support team is limited in our ability to troubleshoot these unique network issues, but we are always happy to try to help.
Troubleshooting:
- Make sure you are using Join Codes to connect to other players and not IP addresses
- Close out of the game and restart the application. Have joining/hosting a world be the first thing you do after launch and login. Once users have played their own world they must restart to join a multiplayer world
- Try a new world. NOT one that has been previously saved
- Restart your computer

Try using a smartphone as a mobile hotspot

Minecraft Education is not available on Game Pass.
They would need to have a Minecraft Education license on the same domain as yours for you two to play together.
