    Hey there,
I'm Caleb with the Minecraft Education Support Team! I'm happy to assist you today!
I completely understand how frustrating it can be when you’re unable to play Minecraft together. Rest assured, we’ll get you back up and running.

Generally when users run into this error it's because one our domains isn't set to allowed and/or P2P networking is disabled on your network.
Would definitely refer to this guide for more information: FAQ: IT Admin Guide – Minecraft Education
If that doesn't work for you, I have some clarifying questions:

1.) Can you ensure that all installations of Minecraft Education are up to date? All players are required to be running the same version of Minecraft Education to play together.
2.) Can you confirm that all updates for your device are installed? Keeping your device up to date can help prevent compatibility issues.
3.) Are all students and host on the same domain?
4.) Is this affecting several students across the school? Knowing whether it’s device-specific or a broader network issue will guide our troubleshooting.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, or concerns!

    Thanks,

Been having the same problems for about 2 weeks now. Thought it might have been a network or proxy issue but seeing this on both macbooks and iPads. I have added photo of htis too. Checked the versions and confirm that versions are up to date (1.20.13) and all iPads are on the same version. Also confirmed thta all students are on the same wifi network (only one in the school). Seen on various models of iPad ranign from Gen 7's through to Gen 10's.

    Hey there!

Ohh! Sorry to hear you are running into issues. This is the first "9" I have seen on this error!

Hmm... my first thought is network and proxies too.

Have you tested on different wifi networks and/or with all proxies/ firewalls / content filters temporarily disabled?

    Hi Danny,

Thanks for the reply. I have recieved confirmation from other sources that there is currently issues with MCE and automatic proxy config scripts. Not sure if this was because of a recent update (MCE or iOS) or something to do with the proxies them selves. Someone else mention on another forum that if you use manual proxy and port instead of an auto config script and use the IP address of the proxy server instead of the DNS name, it's a work around to get students joining each others games. I'll be able to confim this tomorrow when I'm back at that site.

Have also seen this error at another site which doesn't use proxies but only with a single Macbook as opposed to numerous iPads.

    Thanks.

    Hi Danny,
So did some more testing, and getting the code 9 error on majority of the fleet now. Seems like more and more start suffering each day. Connected to a hotspot and confirmed that it's not proxy related. These are now showing the 9 error when trying to host a world so they can't even start a multiplayer game let alone join a world.
Any ideas as I'm now stumped?
    Thanks.

    Hey there,

Thanks for the added info. Very odd. Is anything happening different to the ones that it is happening to? Are they just receiving some sort of update?

This is only happening on iPads?

Any iPads where it is not happening on?

And just to confirm, does the issue replicate on a separate network?

    Hi Danny,
As per the previous post, it was only affecting some of the devices, but now it's pretty much all of them. And Correct, one school is purely iPads and I have seen the error on a macbook at another school. Should have mentioned that one school still runs a proxy (iPad school) and the other runs zscaler (macbooks) so filtering but no proxy. The simplest way to fix the issue in the macbooks was to backup the user data and reimage them. Only been two so far.
However, the iPad school was working, but more and more devices that were working over the past two weeks are falling off and not being able to start/host a multiplayer game, or join multiplayer games. I'm thinking it might be something to do with minecraft and an iOS update (maybe 17.3.1 or 17.4).
And yes, confirmed that I replicated the issue on two iPads in that I was unable to start or join a game when connected via a hotspot - no proxies.
    Thanks.

    Hey there Shane,

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I am going to create a ticket for us for this issue and we can continue the troubleshooting over there! :)

Just wanted to update the post and share the fix for us (code 9 error). In the settings app in iOS, under Minecraft Education, there is a option to turn on local network access. This was turned off on problematic devices. Thanks Danny for all your help and the solution. Hope this helps someone else.

We seem to be having this on Windows 10 devices too, we had a ticket for this last year.

MCE Doesn't work without a workaround when connecting via auto detect proxy

Works fine when proxy is set manually in Windows settings
