They have the same hitbox as the vertical ones. This was fixed into Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 1.20.50.21 Preview, but not fixed in EDU.

(Note: I tried this without the 3D texture pack, and I got the same result.)

  Minecraft Education hasn't released this version quite yet, but this should definitely be addressed in the coming update.

  Hey Sai,

  The version numbers are necessarily a 1 to 1 match with bedrocks versions, so I cannot say what exactly the version will be.
  That said, it looks like I may have used a bit of misleading language concerning the next update. Just to clarify, Our next major update will not be until next year and I do not have an accurate ETA to offer at this time. We may release hot fixes in between now and then, but they would be for specific crucial issues.

  But, though it may take a bit longer than ideal, the fix is coming!
