I have just bought this for my son, and think I have made a mistake.
My son would like to play on Minecraft with his friends, so I tried getting him the Java version and then the education version so that he could play online. I spent £17.95 on java version and now £9 on education version! And I can't seem to access either. I have tried requesting a refund of Java version, but think I also made a mistake with paying for the education version as maybe that is what you are supposed to do if you are a school! How do I fix this mistake/request a refund for the education version... and what should I be doing in order to get Minecraft for my son! Thanks.

Hi -
I am just a father who plays with his son on Minecraft, so I can't answer your question about refunds but I can tell you how to set up a game to play with his friends.
First, you're right -- you don't need Education Edition.
Second, you should know that there are 2 versions of the regular game: Java Minecraft and "regular" Minecraft, and they don't play with each other. Non-Java Minecraft (usually just called "Minecraft", sometimes "Bedrock Minecraft") is the version which is played on iPads, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and can also be played on personal computers. Java version is ONLY played on personal computers.
So you need to find out what version your kid's friends play on. My son's friends almost all play on regular, non-Java Minecraft, mostly on their iPads, so that's what we use. If your son's play on Java Minecraft, then the Java game you bought is the correct one.
Once you have that sorted, you should set your son up with a Microsoft account, so he can connect with his friends online. You can create a child account for your son, and manage it through Microsoft's family settings
When his account is linked to yours, you can change his Xbox settings (Xbox or Xbox Live is their umbrella for all game stuff including Minecraft), including "Privacy and online safety"Anyway, I know it's a lot to digest. But once you have it sorted out it's pretty great -- my son plays weekly with his friends, and I even join in with them sometimes.Good luck!-1 -
