Huge areas of the world disappeared.

I can see down to the "bottom" of the world where there is sky.  The major areas that disappeared were areas where my students were building the most.  They had huge towers and an underground maze and home.  Is there a way to get it back?

  Hi there Scott Mullee. Thank you for writing in about this. I have a few questions for you:

  1. When you load the world, does it display like this on all devices? Do you have any other back ups of the world?
  2. When you approach the areas with a big gap in it, do the structures act like they're still there, and are just invisible? 
  3. Are you running any mods?
