NPC Wishlist
So there are already these cool ideas:

I would like to add to the discussion. I agree that NPCs are a powerful element in the gaming world, but not as robustly implemented in Minecraft as might be possible.
I recommend setting up a small number of global variables to allow game progression settings. NPCs would be able to change based on these settings. For example, in the Python Islands world, after you give the bridge builder a sandwich, the dialogue never changes. They still want a sandwich...But with a small increase in memory cost, the NPC could have 7-10 different sets of dialogue. After the NPC gets the sandwich, the dialogue could change. Thanks for the sandwich!!! This makes the entire nature of interactions incredibly more powerful. When students complete tasks, world variables can be set and conditions can change throughout the world.
Of course, not only would the dialogue change, but the commands as well.
It would also be nice if they had optional second pages of dialogue, or a few other niceties like minor movement.
