I believe there may be a way to change the NPC dialogues. There is a command in the game /dialogue open and /dialogue change. /dialogue open can open an NPC dialogue without the player having to click on that NPC (provided the NPC is within ticking range of the player it is supposed to open for and in a ticking area.) I'm not sure exactly what the Ticking Range is but guessing it is the 4 chunk radius around the player? Anyway, the /dialogue open could be a command place in the first NPC interacted with and call another NPC's dialogue on button press or close. Now the /dialogue change command requires a behavior pack in which to create the scenes. I'm still trying to figure out how to handle that one since the documentation I've been able to find on it is written for Bedrock 1.17.
