Hi there Scott Mclagan. Minecraft: Education Edition is not compatible with Java or Bedrock servers.

Ok, thanks, I feared as much.

So the next question is whether multiple MEE server instances can be run on a single computer? (Obviously with different ports).

Sorry if this has been asked/answered before.

There is no Minecraft Educaiton Edition "Server"  I'm not sure if you could have Multiple instances of Minecraft Education Edition Open on the same computer, seems to me that would be a pretty heavy burden on one machine even if it was theoretically possible.  There are a bunch of threads on the wished for feature of a education edition "server" https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360072477212-Dedicated-Server-for-Minecraft-EE  Here is an active thread.  Hopefully this wishlist item can get done

Thanks Aleece. Yes, I read that thread with interest.

My vision was to run multiple instances of the Java server on a central Windows server that all teachers in our school district could share. This would make it easy for me to support and configure things, and when a teacher was done with one of the servers it could be redeployed to another teacher/classroom.

Oh well...so much for vision. LOL.

Hay Scott,  I'm not super computer tech savvy (as in I don't know how the server hosting companies do it) but I'm sure they some how manage to have multiple servers hosted on a single machine.

Now if you want to just deploy and use Minecraft Java as an educational tools and run minecraft java servers I'm sure that is possible, I know there are people out there doing just that.  However, they are using Minecraft Java.

Minecraft Education Edition is actually based on Bedrock Edition.  Now there is dedicated server software for Bedrock edition, it isn't quite a good as the Java edition server software choices but at least it exists.  I'm really frustrated that they haven't been able to come up with a server software to work with Education Edition yet.  It seems like it would alleviate a whole slew of challenges that many different educators have voiced.

I have experience running  multiple instances of the Java server...it's as simple as copy/pasting the server directory and setting different ports in the server.properties file.

But of course each Java client costs money, whereas the MEE clients are already paid for with our district licensing.

    Oh well...we'll move on.

    Thanks for your help.
