I can't join my friends server nor my friend can join me.
I checked the multiplayer guide, switched accounts still doesn't work her account is [edited]

If you are not on the same network then you need to make sure you know how to perform port forwarding and will need to port forward UDP 19132 for whomever is hosting the game (the other side is not necessary). See https://minecrafteducation.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043254772 for more info.
I would also suggest removing the email address from a public forum Raquel.

I have tried multiple times to join my friend's worlds, and I don't know if this affects the joining process, but we are from different schools. It says unable to connect.

If the two schools are in different tenancies (generally this means your school email addresses are different after the "@" sign) then you will be unable to play with each other directly.

Is there another way to play that is not direct?
