  • We are having the same problems and tried all the same solutions. Anything else my students and colleagues can try?

Hi - if you continue to have issues please open a ticket with the Help Desk (link at top right of page) and we'll do our best to troubleshoot.  Unfortunately since every home network configuration is different it can sometimes be difficult to track down individual connection errors.

Multiplayer across different internet connections is possible as long as the criteria in this Multiplayer Guide is met. Keep in mind that every network is different, so it's possible that some players may not be able to join a multiplayer session from their respective networks due to distinct configuration settings. Our support team is limited in our ability to troubleshoot these unique network issues, but we are always happy to try to help.

    Troubleshooting:

    • Close out of the game and restart the application. Have joining/hosting a world be the first thing you do after launch and login. Once users have played their own world they must restart to join a multiplayer world
    • Try a new world. NOT one that has been previously saved
    • Restart your computer
    • https://portforward.com/minecraft/ is a great resource to help troubleshoot issues with multiplayer, and so is

I'm going to move this discussion to Technical Q&A

Better late than never a follow-up from me in the form of a trouble-shooting text I wrote for my colleagues. This is based on my experience as tech-support for them so by no means is this more than me sharing my experiences here in the hope it might help others:

We found the following issue the most common:

UNABLE TO CONNECT TO WORLD (screenshot with green 'ok' button)

    Unable to connect tips:

    • Make sure you are not on a network that blocks gaming apps (eduroam for example…)
    • Make sure your firewall isn’t blocking Minecraft
      • Go to your firewall (Windows Defender for example) and find a list of apps and permissions. Find Minecraft Education Edition in this list and give it all the permissions you can.
    • Do not change network setting while hosting
    • Do not click ‘Save & Exit’ and reopen the world without a full quit of the Minecraft app:
      • Hosting problems and clicked ‘Save & Exit’? Restart the Minecraft app
      • Re-enter a world? Restart the Minecraft app
      • Accidentally clicked ‘Save & Exit’? Restart the Minecraft app
      • Unable to connect to world and made a change? Restart the Minecraft app
      • Not sure what you did but it doesn’t work? Restart the Minecraft app
    • As a last resort, a full system restart sometimes does wonders
