problems signing in "check internet connection"

I cannot log into Minecraft education edition,. it says to check my internet connection.

I am on a Macbook Pro that is new, however no one in my house can log on without the same error (all macs.... we don't have windows anymore, but it used to work fine.. even a few weeks ago)

I tried sharing hot spot from my phone's LTE data incase something changed on my network blocking it, and I still get the same message.

Trying to google this error, came up with sometimes there is two versions of the game installed -- that is not the case as it happened on a computer with a fresh install and i have looked for duplicate installs.

Microsoft support is "stumped" has no idea what is causing it.. other than i should use windows (why say an app is supported on a certian OS if it really is not?) and i dont think i should buy a new computer for an app i pay for, that i have had, working, on macs for years. They say its a Minecraft Education Edition issue, and not theirs.
