1.18.42 still having stability issues on Home networks
I'm still experiencing several stability and connection issues that happen randomly.
1- Students unable to connect to a hosted world.
2- Hosting Client shuts down for no apparent reason.
3- p2p error when trying to start a world up.
4- Students getting disconnected from the world.
For #1, I usually have the students try again since sometimes it is just a mistake or glitch and a second try works. If there are other students actively able to join the world at the time, I recommend the one with the problem restart minecraft and if that doesn't work, have them restart their device. If no other students are in world at the time, I will restart minecraft on the hosting device or may do a complete reboot.
For #2 I have done extensive logging and checking and reported findings in a ticket with support to hopefully help them figure out what patches are needed, A windows error does show up in the events viewer when this happens. I can usually just restart minecraft and it works fine most of the time. (sometimes I do get the p2p error when I restart.)
#3, the p2p error usually seems to happen when closing one world and then trying to open a new one. However, I have also seen it happen after restarting minecraft without rebooting the device. And Just this morning I had it happen after doing a full reboot on the device and it happened when I first tried to open a world in minecraft.
#4 Just gets really annoying some days but most of the time the kids are able to simply re-join the world.
Back in 1.17 this seemed to happen mostly to my students who were on ipad since anything that would take focus from the game would disconnect them but now in 1.18 it happens to players on every type of device even when focus is not being diverted and even when the devices involved are not having network connection issues. (I can understand when it happens to my class that is meeting at a park and everyone is on cellular hot spots to get to the internet but when it is happening in my location to people on hardwired LAN and all the network monitors are saying the speed and network connectivity is solid and there is nothing being blocked it gets annoying.)
My testing has mostly been on Windows 10 machines from barely adequate to run windows 10 and minecraft all the way to ready to run a Game Server sort of system. Desktops and laptops.
Then we have students with Desktops, laptops, Ipads, Chromebooks, Mac Books and I've also tested it on Android phones.
We have even had a student get a new Windows PC because it just would not work on her Chromebook (but not all families are able to afford to upgrade like that.)
Other than the Chrome book that wouldn't work, everyone else has been able to connect and work in minecraft education edition, just not all the time. It works, but intermittently.
I do miss the days of being able to connect via IP address and port number since that generally got rid of the "mistakes of entering the code" since my students pretty much all just copy pasted.
Problem now is I have to post new codes and links every re-start which now adds an additional layer of likely mistakes in entering the codes. My posting them and then the kinds reading and entering them.
