So it looks like this is being looked as as an issue - i see posts from moderaters saying that the team is aware of the problem - likely you will see an uptick in posts about this now since the entire east coast just went back to school. Hoping for a speedy fix - kids are super frustrated they can't build with their friends atm.

    Hey Tracey!

Sorry to hear, and yes the team is absolutely aware and working towards a fix.

What devices do you use that are effected? And what OS version are you on?

Hey Danny  - thanks for the reply - we are using desktop pc's on Windows 10 and Chromebooks with Minecraft EDU installed from the Google Play Store. Not sure of the Chrome OS current version but i can find out.

    Hey Tracey-

No problem. Awesome, I made a ticket for us and we can continue the conversation over there. See you on the other side! :)

After mucking around getting things to work for staff accounts, our final problem is the new port, udp 3478, instead of 19132. My school tells me that this new port is used by many "problematic" services and they won't be able to unblock it for students.

In the old version, we could simply use a different port, but this feature was removed.

We also have the same problem, do you know any solutions? Students are not allowed to participate in lessons

They are definitely working on the issue right now - i supplied a file tracking my machines hosting and joining worlds. Of course i was able to successfully join a world this morning but when i hosted - it took several tries for the other computers to join reliably.

At this point i'm switching to other curriculum to give them time to come up with a solution that works reliably. I'm not sure of the timeline for a fix or a revert to old ports but i hope it is soon. I know as a classroom teacher that you 100% need to rely that kids can join worlds as there is no time for repeated attempts or troubleshooting in a 45 minute period.

WTB Multiplayer mode back - it's the heart and soul of this great game ;)

Exact same problem over here! Ever since the new update we are struggling to reliably get everyone to join the server. Half of them can, half of them just get a connection error. Seems random on who can and can't join, it's not consistent. All Windows 10 PCs.

I'm having similar issues. I start a world for students to join. They are able to connect for about 5 min, then all are kicked at once (Server doesn't crash). They rejoin for a couple of min, then kicked again.

I am in the same position - we used to be able to do multiplayer no problem on 1.17 between PCs on the teachers system and Chromebooks. This term we have all upgraded to 1.18.32 (on Chromebooks & PC) and we cannot do multiplayer. The children can join for a short time and then they crash out. Screen says "disconnect" - host is still working no problem - same join code. Causing mass frustration.

I am sorry for this issue and what the current user experience is. This is affecting a lot of our users and our Devs understand the need to find a solution. They are actively working on this.

Can you then put this up as a known issue? https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4404969825044-Known-Issues-on-Chromebook

Pretty major feature loss! Fingers crossed the devs come up with solution quickly!

    Hey Tim,

Thanks for your suggestion and sorry you are running into issues.

Just wanted to confirm the new URL is allowlisted? -  https://*.minecraft-services.net/

It will be worth checking the other URL's as well with your school's IT. I recommend looking through this guide to double check the others: IT Admin Guide

You can also learn more of what is new with the latest update here: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4484636118420-What-s-New-in-the-Mobile-Multiplayer-More-update-version-1-18-32-

    Keep us updated!

We are using a consumer router Netgear RAX200 with direct internet connection, no school network. In that setting no URLs are restricted, therefore no whitelist needed. Please correct me if Im wrong. Unfortunately multiplayer is highly unstable even with firewall disabled.

Host computer is a capable Windows 10 gaming laptop with ethernet connection directly on the router, host IP is fixed and bound to the open UDP port.

yes all URL are allowed - the fact the children can get on for 30s or so before being disconnected is probably indicative that it is not a network or port blockage. That would be binary wouldn't it?

So my workaround currently until they stabilize/fix this issue has been to create my worlds on a chromebook and as all my students are on chromebooks share out from the chromebook - that seems to work reliably so far - i'll update if it does not. However that still leaves all of my larger windows 10 machines in an unreliable state of connection. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an issue only affecting Windows devices sharing out to anything else. I've no idea how ipads are faring with this.

I tried that thinking it might be my windows 10 PC - but I got the same instability. (Chromebook to Chromebook) 1.17 worked on the same hardware no problem.

We have also seen that some antivirus software has started to block communication in the background. Try adding our application as a trusted source and see if that helps.

Chromebooks don't have anti virus software.

Any sense as to when a solution might be ready for multiplayer on 1.18?

No ETA at this time, sorry Tim. Thanks so much for your patience.

Is this a high priority fix? Or is it just that it is very difficult to pin down? something seems way off here - this effects a crucial component of how we use Minecraft EDU in schools. Wondering why it is taking so long to fix?

This peer to peer network design will never work without flaws, it never has been. Dedicated server network topology is the only way to go. Wake up!

    Hey Tracey,

The team is working towards a fix, sorry about the inconvenience and thank you for the patience!

    Thanks for the feedback Christoph!

Is it worth offering a roll back to 1.17 for those schools who need the multiplayer feature?

Offering a roll back can cause issues down the road. If the issue is not worked on and users were to roll back their clients, then the underlying issue does not get resolved. The issue could be our client build or something with the school's infrastructure and once that older client build is no longer supported the issue will return for the users in a potentially bigger way.

Just suggesting a roll back as a temporary measure until the issue is solved on 1.18

Its not school infrastructure due to the widespread reports of this issue.

The known issues page still doesn't show this. (I suggested updating it 2 weeks ago) Is this not quite an important known issue?
