Sorry to hear about the black screen issue. This is a known bug and we are currently investigating it. If you are on Windows, please try this:

    • Uninstall all versions of Minecraft: Education Edition (back up any worlds you need to)
    • Navigate to: https://education.minecraft.net/en-us/get-started/download
    • Scroll down past the Windows, Chromebook or Android, Mac and Iphone/Ipad options. Click "download from the Windows Store"
    • Try and download the update from the Windows Store and let us know how that goes!

Currently that is our only fix. I am sorry I don't have a fix for Chromebooks at this time.

I appreciate the feedback but I am not on Windows so this is not an option unless you are saying I can download the Windows store on my Chromebook which I'm guessing you are not saying.

I've just taken a look at the app store reviews, minecraft education isn't loading for all chromebook users including myself. Please fix this for chromebook users, it's been happening to all of us since the update!

    Hey Yuma,

Unfortunately we do not have a date for you at the moment.

In the meantime try lowering the "Render Distance setting to a number between 1-4 and see if that helps. (Default should be 9)

    Let us know!

There is no ETA for a fix at this time Yuma. Please try to limit your questions and responses to a single post or two at most.

  • Is there any update on this one? Our school has been using this for class quite often and since the students all use Chromebooks this has been a massive inconvenience.

I am sorry for the issue that is affecting many users. We have seen that some web sockets and filters on Chromebooks are interfering with the game client. Try disabling these to see if that changes the issue. There is still no ETA provided to us to give out of when this issue will be resolved.

With Chromebooks you can have web sockets, extensions, and proxies installed through the browser. There are a multitude of these. Check your browser extensions to remove them or to change settings to allow communication with our servers. Some extensions are not meant to block but change your internet settings and this can cause issues as well.

Thank you, Max, for trying to be proactive. The Devs are working on this with Google, and we understand the frustration. We think it may have to do with the graphics coding on the backend. One thing we are trying with Macs, and you are welcome to try this on Chromebooks, is to run Minecraft Education in Windowed mode instead of Fullscreen and see if that changes anything.

Following this post to hopefully get an update as to when Education Edition will work on Chromebooks again. My children solely rely on chromebooks for homeschool and some of their lessons are on minecraft and they haven't been able to play in months. Also we usually play as a family on the weekends and haven't been able to do that either in months. Hopefully this can be fixed ASAP.
