I'm having the same problem! It wont work. I have to join a different internet to even get in the world, but it still always glitches me out. I was so excited for the 1.18 update, but now I kind of wish I was still on 1.17... I love your game, Mojang, but please get this fixed. Thank you.

    Sorry to hear!

Carter, could you please tell me more about having to "join different internet to even get in the world"?

What has worked for you and what has not?

    Thanks!

Not working for me either, is there like a patch update that could be made to fix it?

We’re having the same issue, extremely annoying! All ours keeps coming up with after we try to connect to a world is “unable to connect”. We’ve started the iPad multiple times and have updated the app and still nothing.

Hi, Ollie Sandover Welcome, and so sorry for the trouble. Hello there, King 22043 - pleased to meet you, but sorry it's because you're having problems.

Would you be so kind as to help us out as we try to get this fixed? can you let us know a few more details?

    • You are using Minecraft EDU 1.18.32 - right? (just confirming)
    • You have started using the new update and it is working on your device
    • The device you are using is - (can you let us know a few specifics, please?)
    • You have tried joining worlds with others, but it isn't working.
    • The others you are trying to join with are: (please also confirm)
    1. also in 1.18.32
    2. in the same domain as you are (the part after @ is the same)
    3. you are sharing in a network you have used before successfully
    4. could you let us know which join method you tried?

I know this is a lot to ask of you! It would help us so much to help you and others, if you would be willing to fill in this info. Thanks for considering. We want to help!

    Same here.

I have 3 PC with MCEE updated to 1.18.32. Since then, they cannot connect to each other. We try by code and by connection string, same result. We are all on the same domain.

Is it normal that the connection option by IP address is gone?

Is there a way to go back to 1.17 until this is fix?

    Thank you.

Benjamin Duval users like yourself who share information are a huge help! Thank you! I will check my device in a sec for the IP address issue, but I have a question for you. You are signing on to the three different computers with three different Minecraft accounts, right? (just checking)

It is possible to go back. Do you still have the download from your last install? Search for an exe file with 1_17_32 or just Minecraft that isn't 18.

    I'll be right back! ************** I'm Back!!!!!! ************

I do not see any simple way to change a setting or something and enable IP joining. However, have you tried using the Copy Link option? (*edit* oh, I am guessing that's what you mean y connection string, so oops!)

Let me know, and thanks again for engaging!

    Hi!

Yes, I user 3 differents accounts from my kids.

I Will truc vu copy link but I think Thay almost the same as the connection string. The connection string seem to replace the IP addresse connection.

Hi Debbie Alexander, I have the same problem as Ollie Sandover and King 22043 because Me and my peers at school can't join each others worlds since it updated from 1.17 to 1.18.32. It was perfectly fine before it updated, but now it just keeps us on the loading screen until it says "connection timed out". We were all excited for the update and have all updated, we are all on the same network and domain, and we've tried all of the join methods possible, but it still won't let us in!

    Thank you.

Danny, I have been having the problem of not being able to join worlds, as you know. About the internet, I have found that if I am on the same internet as the person whose world I'm trying to join, it just loads and loads before it finally says something about the connection timing out. My family has 2 internets, so I can join the second one, and therefore enter the world. However, after a few minutes, I get kicked out. I will try to provide some deeper information later on, however I would still like to enjoy the new update on my single player world. Thank you for reaching out to me, Danny, and I look forward to providing more information in the future. Good bye.😊

  • I have been having the same issue with all my students for almost 2 weeks. I teach many classes per week. Since the hosting dialog box info changed from IP addess changed to Connection info, students cannot connect to my teacher hosted world at all. We are all on the same domain connecting to the same wireless router and network. Previously no issues, whether or not students were on v17.32 or v18.32. I have tried hosting from my laptop via the same wireless system, and from the hardwired PC in each of the classrooms. I have tried in at least 5 different classrooms. We found some students could not connect to any hosted world (via me or another student). The only success we have had today is that some students could connect to a fellow student hosting a world on the same version (although this was not consistent?). It has been very frustrating to say the least. Something happened about 10 days ago, where previously I had no issues hosting 30+ students at a time. Please help!!

  • Just tried another class and only the v17 group (6 students) could join together. None of the v18 students could join using the image code. When we tried to connect otherwise, the frustrating thing was the host student had an IP address to share but all other students did not have the option to enter an IP address, only the Connection Info field.

i am having the same issue as everyone else here, multiplayer does not work no matter how hard i try.

every time i try to join my friends or vise versa it always says cannot connect to world or it just doesn't show any message at all.

i try to use 1.18.32 at school which is the only time i play it because MC EDU is the only version of minecraft that worked/was unblocked on the school internet (worked version 1.17 and earlier) and MC EDU  is commonly used at my school whether its for education purposes or for fun.

my school internet has a firewall that blocks most sites and most games (all multiplayer games) but it never blocked MC EDU because it used in class for educational purposes.

MC edu has always worked before 1.18 no problems at all have been using it since i started high school.

also my school primarily us apple devices to play MC EDU eg. macbooks

if you could find a way to fix this issue it would be amazing

    kind regards.

    xander.

I am sorry to hear that multiplayer is not working for all of you. On August 9th we updated our services and in order to host or join multiplayer worlds, networks need to allow list a new URL. The new URL is https://*.minecraft-services.net/. If you don't know the process for allow listing in the network, you may need to work with your ISP for that procedure. Let me know if this helps or changes the issue.

So I did a bit of Fiddling around in minecraft’s settings and I came across Cellular data, turned it on and told my friend to turn it on and BOOM he joined. Don’t really know what that setting does but it seems to work. Another thing to mention is if u are at school and using school Wifi, there is a great chance that the school wifi has a built in VPN that could be blocking multiplayer

Good to know but for my part, I try to connect at home, so no restriction on any ip or url. And this is not working.

    Hi!

Some more testing: In the same network (no connection restriction on external IP), I cannot connect anyone to anyone (3 PC together).

But, after I turn the cellular data "on" in the profile, I can connect the same 3 PC together! Thank to @Ollie Sandover

Note that I'm using physical network, not wifi (Yeah, I know, kind of old school...).

So, now I have a workaround, but that weird that the cellular option have this effect.

I work in a school and have the same problem. IT has added the url to the allow list as mentioned above and this has NOT fixed the issue.  This error has happened in the past - last year we had the same thing and it went unresolved for months.  As a side note, the 'Downloading Resources' error on iPads is back again too - another one that occurred last year and had to be resolved with a patch.

Can you please actually consider a school environment when you make updates.  Can you also let us know ahead of time when an update will occur so I can plan to NOT use Minecraft for about a month afterwards.  I have half a school of very disappointed kids right now who cannot play with each other.  Not on their laptops and not on their iPads.

If you have any other tips for us to fix the join world issue we will try them.

Oh thanks so much for sharing your feedback and workaround Benjamin!

And we hear you Jessica, it is unfortunate we are seeing Downloading Resources bug showing its face again as well. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

I have to agree that some warning about an impending update would be nice.  This update dropped the day before school started here.  Any teachers in our region who had been planning on using minecraft education edition and had spent any time prepping for it in 1.17 for a grand start to the school year were probably very disappointed to find some of the clients updating during that first class while others were not so now the class can't all connect to the shared world.  Or in many cases, they may have found that the class can't connect at all.

For situations where the school has full control over the devices and can manage when/how updates are pushed out, I'm sure they should all be setting it so the updates only happen manually after the release stabilizes and the connection bugs worked out.

But for those of us where devices are a mixed bag or personal devices owned by students families, it is a lot harder to troubleshoot issues and some forewarning to allow us to communicate with parents ahead of time would greatly be appreciated.  Considering how resent the GOAT update was compared to previous updates, I was very shocked to see this update come out so soon.

Thank you for the feedback about updates and their impact when they come as a surprise. We definitely want to do everything in our power on our side to avoid this from happening. We tried to update customers where we could a week or two in advance via pinging our Mentors, IT Admins we have contacts with, and updating the KB articles.

If there are other ways we can reach IT Admins and Educators, let us know your thoughts! We unfortunately cannot send out an email to every customer due to privacy/consent/usage issues surrounding that. We are working on a new way to message IT Admins via Admin Center, but this will take time to implement this system.

As a general rule, we try to update once before Back to School (dates range per district/country), once during Winter break or right before it, and sometimes a third during a different break. But again, these are general and subject to change as many variables affect releases. Thank you for your patience through these and your assistance in helping us improve these releases/notifications!

Lastly, I'll ensure a ticket is created for you Jessica so we can troubleshoot your issue (unless one is already in our system with you).

I usually (and I know a lot of other Mentors and those connected with the product) do blasts on twitter and other social media forwarding the official notifications. When I was Minecraft lead in my boards IT dept, I also sent updates via various school channels about these updates.

I think the general issue is that a lot of teachers may not necessarily be plugged into all these various communication channels, or particularly at this time of year, may just be overwhelmed with messaging from the various school departments. Additionally, it's probably not foremost in their thoughts to check various websites for potential updates on products they use.

I'm wondering if it's possible in future to have a splash message on the title page of the app itself alerting users about upcoming updates, or something like that? Maybe something they can even click on that takes them to the official admin centre for more details? There's still a good chance that many educators may not see it directly (as they may not fire up Minecraft until the first day in class), but I think there's a better chance someone at their school or board will have done so, and spread the word.

I'm having the same issue where anyone who has updated to v18 cannot join each other worlds, only v17's can connect to other v17's worlds. All on surface go's with microsoft 10 and all using the school's wifi.

Am I correct in assuming that this issue will be resolved eventually by minecraft and there's nothing we can do to get students in each other's worlds currently?

A splash message is a great idea.  I am based in Melbourne, Australia so for me this is half way through Term 3 and I would definitely see it.

Justin, there isn't a ticket as I just added to this thread as it seemed to affect so many people.  I have a ticket for the 'Downloading Resources' error that we now have on our iPads but have been told I just have to wait until it is fixed and that it is 'being worked on'.  I have no idea how long that will be but based on last year when we had issues connecting with each other for a whole term I can imagine it is a long time (once again Term 3).  Seeing as there is four weeks until our term break I essentially have to reschedule Minecraft lessons until our Term 4 in October.

However, I also run Minecraft Club 3 times a week across my school which is year 4 to 12 with special needs students and not being able to play together really takes away a lot of the fun for them, so please let me know as soon as there is a fix.  Thanks.

Hi Support team, we are experiencing the same issued among our student. We are supposed to host a huge educational eSports competition and we have to fix this before. We already tried port forwarding, white listing, disabling firewall, usong mobile phone, manu diferent hosts, etc.

We CAN connect to host BUT it will soon kick everyone out. We cannot teach with this problem happening every 5 minutes. Kids are getting frustrating. Please, we need a quick solution so we can continue using MCE as before in our studentes. Something important is happening and it should not be so hard to replicate (its happening a lot in other schools - they contacted us to check also)

Thanks a lot and please support us

We are still investigating this issue. Please try turning off any VPNs, proxies, and adding Minecraft Education as a trusted source to your antivirus program. Also try allow listing these three URLs: https://*.minecraft-services.net/, World.relay.skype.com, and turn.azure.com.

It has been a long time since I've heard any updates on this huge issue. In Australia we have just got back from our Term 3 break and I was hoping this would be fixed.  Is there now a patch to ensure people can join each other's worlds?

    Thanks

I think the Splash screen Warning of an upcoming update would be helpful.

And If things are generally working, I would actually prefer the updates to be farther between.  As in it had been like 2 years since a major update when we finally got the GOAT update and I was expecting to sit in that for longer since it seemed to be working very well for us.

This update seems to have introduced so much instability, especially into the multiplayer game.  I could have lived without having education edition on phones.  I feel like loosing the connect by ip address/port option has set up BACK further from the possibility of getting a dedicated server option working.

1.18 was not left in beta testing long enough to fix some of these very problematic bugs.  Don't wait for breaks in order to do an update to fix bugs that are keeping teachers/students from using the product for whole terms.

When rolling out a new BIG update, Perhaps do it at the start of a LONG break so perhaps the worst bug fix updates can get done while still in the break rather than dropping the update bomb on the eve of the first day of school (which is when it landed for schools in our area) and leaving everyone stuck with the bugs till the end of the semester, so please release the bug fix updates when you get them!  Don't wait till winter break.
