Minecraft EDU sign-in issue

Hi, Karl Hildebrandt I'm sorry this problem is popping up. We have some strange log in issues at times as well. For some reason, certain Active directory accounts (in other words, they way they log on to the computer) do not let my students log in to Minecraft, but they can log in under another Active Directory account - on the exact same computer - and log in with their Office 365 credentials and get into MC:EDU. We also have had the opposite problem on one computer. It just was being all "I do not recognize certain accounts on Minecraft." In that situation, we found that the install worked better when we upgraded later, and never really got to the bottom of the problem I'm afraid. So, my suggestion would be to try letting them log on with a successful "dummy" account, and see if that works. In that case, I have them email their finished work (for example, a pdf from their books and quill or a jpg from a screen shot) or share their exported world backup with their regular drive. It's a pill. but at least they get in.

Are you using 1.17.32? This version solved all my networking issues. I used to have happen what you described before the update.

  • Thanks for the suggestions Debbie Alexander. Bryan Sanders, we had multiple versions of Minecraft installed on the computers. IT has come in to delete and reinstall to the most current version. I checked a few laptops and they seem to be running 1.17.32.

Our IT created a software centre for us so that we can uninstall and reinstall Minecraft edu on our own but after trying it on about 5 of the non-working/sign-in issue devices - it still doesn't work.

We resorted to having groups with working laptops host their worlds so others can join but at the cost of most students restarting their projects.

  • Thanks Bryan Sanders. I asked my IT about it and sent the link. This question is out of my league, I am just a passionate educator who loves integrating game-based learning the classroom! Will see what they say.

My students have the same problem when they try to sign into Minecraft Education on the computer in class. We removed ME from all the computers and reinstalled the most recent version to remove any possible conflict between versions. Only this version is installed on all the computers. Students can sign-in for the first session but not again once they log out of their accounts. The only fairly consistent "fix" is to reset their profile for that computer (WIN + R >> systempropertiesadvanced >> Settings button >> delete student profile >> OK >> restart computer) or to switch to a computer they haven't used before. As you can imagine, this is a time intensive solution to run each week. ME worked fine last year. Same computers. Any ideas?

Are you using SSO? This sounds like it may be due to the login cached on the machine that is not the same as the login for Minecraft Education. Do you use the same account to login to the device and game? You can try setting up a device to not save or cache any login information and see if that changes anything.

Students login to the device and game using the same account. This was never a problem before AFAIK.

I've emailed your suggestion to our tech. Thanks for the quick reply! I'll be sure to post to let you know if it works or not.

We reset all the logon profiles on one machine before testing the zero logon cache policy. I had two students test that computer. They're able to log on, sign into ME, log off up to twice in a row. After logging off a third time and logging back in, they get the same error message as before and can't sign into ME. Rebooting didn't make any difference.

A promising solution but not quite!

It sounds like there may be a setting push from whoever manages the devices. Try checking the SSO settings. If all that checks out, then it might be something interfering with the communication. From what you describe it may be due a block on your device or network. Try checking your antivirus software or any filters to see if our app has been added as a trusted source and is allowed to communicate to our servers freely.
