I always set aside a few extra licenses and assign them to my lab. I then use them to host worlds on their own computers, thus giving me a mini server farm!

Unfortunately, an account can only be in one world at a time and Education Edition doesn't come with the option of a headless server to host worlds.  So you either need to have "extra licenses" to use as your Hosts.  Or you would need to provide the world files to the students so they can run them on their own license.

If you are working with a "Shared" multiplayer world for say each Class.  You are probably going to need a separate "extra license" for each Class world you need to have hosted.

Wish I had better news for you.

  • Do you have any teacher accounts? I use the licences for teachers as they are not used as much. We took some old desktop computers, threw in any extra RAM and an older SSD and then used these to host the relevant servers. The join code is a bit of nuisance though as any reset requires me to share a new join code.

Would love to do that Bryan Sanders If only we all had the extra licenses to do with as we please.  So wish we could have an education edition class dedicated server software!

Especially now that the option to use the IP address and port is gone with the update to 1.18.32.  I'm now having to re-share the join codes/links/connection info several times a day whenever joining multiplayer quits working or whenever some one joining causes the Host client to shut down.
