    That's a great question, and I've fielded that one a lot! 

    So, some may direct you to using resource packs, mods and the like. I generally steer people clear of this, as it's not officially supported in any way by Minecraft Education Edition, and as the were developed exclusively for bedrock, they have been know to corrupt worlds or even game installations. 

    That said, my usual approach, especially where time constraints are important, I direct students to use an item as a representation (or a stand in) for what's not in the inventory. This is an opportunity for students to get creative. Frequently, I'll have wheat stand in for multiple types of other crops. Today for example, I used anvils to represent batteries during a co-taught lesson!
