Students joining as operators despite world being set to "Members"
A couple weeks ago I was able to procure a hundred MCEE licenses. Microsoft redirected me to a licensing company named PlexHosted LLC. They invoiced me for 100 Academic Minecraft Education Edition Licenses. They deposited them in my admin portal and I noticed it said "faculty" next to the licenses. I was assured this is standard and students should be fine with it. I'm now starting to think they gave me the wrong licenses...

I was informed that the "faculty" qualifier on the licenses shouldn't matter and there's something deeper going on here. Any chance someone has run into a similar issue?

Hi there Joe Feely, I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with licenses. In this case student accounts can be elevated to 'Faculty' status if students have access to apps that are specifically assigned to faculty or faculty level only. I hope this helps!

Hi Andrew, the licensing company told me to assign them as students in the microsoft admin portal. I set them all to have the A1 student licenses (they didn't have any licenses assigned to them before). Nothing has changed, they still default as operator, but I'm assuming it might take some time for it to go through.

Hello! I already opened a thread about this months ago - the problem unfortunately still exists and continues to exist, and seems to exist with others as well. Our IT company has set all student licenses to student licenses, and no matter what we've tried, the students are still operators - neither can I restrict their rights nor otherwise make them not have operator status. The problem has made it impossible for me to use Minecraft Education in class for months :-(

How I have successfully set this up is to make the users without licensing here: https://admin.microsoft.com/
And then add the license to the users here: https://educationstore.microsoft.com/

Bryan Sanders you got it! The only thing I'd add is that if your licenses were purchased in the Store for Education or through the "unbundled" O365 option they would do license assignment in the Store for Education: Manage Licenses in the Microsoft Store for Education – Minecraft: Education Edition Support
Stefan Huber - there is a delay in the license role being updated of up to a week. If you are still having issues please open a ticket and we'll look into it. https://aka.ms/MEE_New_Request
