The link above for the Mac (https://aka.ms/meecmmacos) downloads the same ClassroomModeSetup_1_81_v2.msi file as used for Windows instead of a .pkg installation file designed for a Macintosh as shown in the Installing Classroom Mode for Minecraft tutorial at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzXC48f7aBg

Where can I find the correct new Classroom Mode application for a macOS Catalina desktop system?

    Thanks,
    Greg Thompson

I can confirm that if you try to "/classroommode" connect from Minecraft Education Edition version 1.17.31 to the older Mac "Classroom Mac for Minecraft" app, you receive the following Sign In error:

Now where can one find the updated "Classroom Mac for Minecraft" app for MacOS?  As mentioned above, the links for the Mac on the Minecraft download page at https://education.minecraft.net/en-us/get-started/download as well as in the "Get Started with Classroom Mode" article  https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360047116652 both download the Windows .msi version and not the .pkg installation package for MacOS?

Greg Thompson Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've fixed the mac classroom mode link and it will now download the correct file.

The links have been updated to download a "Classroom_Mode_1_18_v2.dmg" app container file containing a newer "Classroom Mode for Minecraft" app, however the first time it gets initiated, either via /classroommode or manually from MacOS' Launchpad, MacOS reports that it can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software as shown below:

Was the app appropriately signed and notarized with your Apple Developer ID so that MacOS will allow it to be installed?

I am running macOS Catalina v10.15.7.

An update - After overriding MacOS Gatekeeper security warning by going into System Preferences -> Security & Privacy and manually allowing the opening of the Classroom Mode for Minecraft app as described in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491, I was able to get the new Classroom Mode 1.81 app working with Minecraft Education Edition 1.17.31 as shown below:

You should however repost it after getting it signed as a known developer, so this issue does not continue to occur and schools will be able to know it hasn't been infected.  Thanks, Greg

  • For Chromebook, go to the Google Play store on the laptop and you should get an update button on Minecraft.

    Hello,
I am trying to learn how to use Minecraft for Education with my class. However, I am having a lot of trouble using the free version. I would like to know how my students will get into the game and how to play it before applying to the school to buy a license.
I have also tried to download the Classroom mode version, but it tells me that the version has to be updated by the developers.
Please any help on my next steps?
    I appreciate any help.

    Diana

Andrew-L could you take a look at Diana's issue?

Hi there Diana Jara. I'm happy to assist getting you set up. We have a guide on the free trial for Minecraft: Education Edition here:

Try Minecraft: Education Edition for free

This will show you how to engage in the trial world. This world is not designed for multiplayer, however. If you wish to use the trial licenses (which get 10 individual login sessions per student and 25 per educator) and use multiplayer with your students, you'll need to contact your organizations IT admin and have them get an account set up for your school's @domain.

Classroom Mode is a tool that runs alongside Minecraft: Education Edition rather than as a solo program. In order to try out Classroom Mode you need to be successfully inside of the app and follow the guide here:

Get Started with Classroom Mode – Minecraft: Education Edition Support

This is still going on. I downloaded the latest version of Minecraft Edu Edition and the Classroom Mode and the latter says I need to update. And I’m using the latest posted edition.
    MEE: 1.18.32
    CM: 1.81 v2
