In any of the chunks that were loaded previously in the world, you are not going to find the new stuff.  You have to move beyond those chunks to find "fresh" territory to load.

Now there are 3rd party tools out there that you may be able to use to "trim" the world or remove the chunks that don't have anything built in them BUT, this is NOT an automatic process nor supported by minecraft (so make sure to backup the world before trying anything like that.)  Depending on how much your have built up the world and how much area was just explored but didn't have anything built in it that you want to keep.  Or perhaps you just set up a teleport to "fresh" territory to get to experience the New stuff in that world.

Another Idea might be to generate a "fresh" world using the world seed just so you can see what would change compared to the old version of the world.
