Your best Lessons ?
Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a project regarding Minecraft education. I'm a beginner into this new field of game base learning, and I'm wondering what are the best lessons to teach to students between the age of 10 to 17.
What are the best lessons that you've already taught to your students ?
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please, share me your passion ! I can't wait to use Minecraft as a teaching tool !
Thanks for your feedbacks !

Hi Nicolas Mazeret,
I have a whole bunch I've developed in cooperation with other educators with powerpoints and companion worlds:
- Literary Activity: we have the students take a descriptive passages from a book or story and create a build from it.
- The social, environmental and health impacts of mining: This workshop is usually multiple days. We have the students select a specific resource that humans mine, and then have them build a project that demonstrates how it is mined, it's effects and solutions.
- Build a Mars Rover workshop: Based on the challenge found in the Minecraft Library, but significantly expanded. Provide more context and a historical overview of the exploration of Mars, and explore what kind of experiments or tools we'll need to include.
- Castle Build: In this workshop, I provide the students with an accurate reconstruction of a castle based on some real life castles. They have 30 minutes to explore the structure, and then based on what they've found, they start building there own.
- Indigenous Longhouse workshop: Similar to the above.
- Accessibility workshop: We discuss and explore what accessibility means and then challenge the students to create a fully accessible structure, or adapt a non-accessible structure from my example world.
- Eco Build workshop: We discuss and explore different eco friendly features, power sources etc, and contrast them with non-environmentally friendly features, etc. Students are then required to build a structure from the community that has eco-friendly features.
Structure workshop: We take two different structures that are built from different materials and explore what kind of forces in nature might affect them and how. The students then build the structures in Minecraft and we use TNT, fire and water to simulate some of these forces (students choose 2 forces). After, they examine how well the structure withstood the forces.
I have a few more in progress. Feel free to reach out if you're interested in any of them. I'm happy to share.

I have really enjoyed my Mission to Mars lesson. Students work collaboratively to first research about living on Mars and then travel to Mars in Minecraft. (Real martian terrain imported into Minecraft!).
They then attempt to build a colony and survive.
Here's a link to my website with more information.

That's awesome, Chris Fuge.
Thanks for sharing. I'm currently polishing up a Moon activity along similar lines.
