Problems when flying in creative. Fly lock?
When I'm building in creative, in flying mode, and placing blocks in strips quickly, occasionally, I will find I can take my hands off everything, but still be flying in the direction I was going. It's like a flight/strafe/movement lock. I can disable it by tapping either W,S,A,D in the direction my flight is happening. I'm not sure if it's a feature, but if it is and someone could tell me how to disable it, that would be great. I've scoured the settings and can't find anything, I also don't know how I'm triggering it, but that would be handy to know as well.
Problem has been around for years and I've learnt to work around it, but just wondering if there's a more permanent solution.

Hey there,
In Minecraft: Education Edition we don't have any auto run/fly option, nor was I able to reproduce this on my end. I'm not sure if others are having it or not, but if so let us know! Alan Downes, I'd be interested to know if you can reproduce this on another device. I do also know that in other versions of Minecraft this would sometimes happen to me if Minecraft was tabbed out suddenly by another app or froze for a sec, but I'm not sure if that's what's happening to you or not.

Hi Justin, thanks for your reply.
It may be OS specific, I'm on the latest Mac OS on a 2017 iMac. I thought it may have something to do with special character selection (where you press and hold a key to bring up other letter variations). I used a terminal command to turn that off, but even that didn't resolve the issue.
Just tried, and it did it again after around 5 minutes of gameplay. I am a bit of a masher (but a quick builder) so I noticed I'd hit caps lock, not sure if that has any relevance, but even trying to do it with caps lock, I'm unable to. It's only when I'm playing normally. I should video my hands so I can see what I've pushed! (actually seriously might do that).

I have the same problem occasionally. I think it has to do with the trackpad. It can be a real mess. All of a sudden you are just going forward when you weren't expecting to be. It can happen in walking or in flying. It's like you're stuck. The only way to get out of it is escape. I am on a Mac as well. I assumed it was because my arm brushed my trackpad or some thing, or I accidentally had a control key or something.

It sounds to me like some sort of sticky key kind of issue. (Perhaps even a physical thing not necessarily software related?)
I really don't know though as I don't think I've ever experienced this behavior on any of my PCs in any version of Minecraft (I've used all three.)
I have considered disabling my integrated touch pad on the notebook because that has been responsible for accidentally destroying NPCs while I'm working on creating lesson maps as well as plenty of other unintended behaviors just having my hand near it, not even touching it.
