Bryan Sanders has an excellent suggestion.

Frequently I also find that if a chromebook's OS has fallen too far behind in updates, auto updates stop working, applications can stop working and/or lose functionality.

I'd recommend updating your OS on the chromebook at the same time. Settings>About Chrome OS>Click the update button and restart when prompted.

TheOP Gamer are you on a chromebook, or Windows device?

If it's a chromebook, you can try the steps as suggested above. If it's a Windows Device, go to Start>Settings and Apps, look for two installations of Minecraft. Uninstall the oldest version.
