Creating Student Accounts
Hello,
I work for a non-profit Science Center and am interested in using Minecraft Education Edition in future programming. I have valid Microsoft/Office365 accounts. However, we do not have student accounts, as the students we would be teaching would come and go throughout the year. I've been doing some research but would really like some help clearing some things up.
- Can I use my individual Office365 account to purchase licenses for students who do not have an Office365 account?
- Do students need an email to log into Minecraft Education Edition?
- How do students who are under the age of 13 supposed to get an email when they aren't old enough to legally have an account?
TYIA!

Thanks for reaching out and these are fantastic questions. All users will need to have a valid Office 365 Education account. These are different from your standard Microsoft or Office 365 accounts and they do comply with COPPA and other children's protection programs. I will link information below for you:

You would not be able to only use your account for all the students to log in as they would not be able to play together (because the game sees everyone as one user at that point).
I will link some information for you about the eligibility process with Office 365 Education that you can use to see if your location is able to qualify. Please note the Minecraft: Education Edition team does not have insight into the eligibility process so we are not able to determine eligibility.
if your organization does not qualify or are unable to get Office 365 Education licenses you can still use the Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft for educational purposes:

Hi Adam,
I was hoping you could help me.I am new to Minecraft Education and don't understand the logistics around adding a class. I have some students who wish to use Minecraft Education for their homework, but I am unsure how to make them an account or how to add a class.
Thanks,
Hannah

Thanks for reaching out! You are definitely not the only one who is a beginner at the game so you came to the right place! The biggest thing is your school or district will have to have active Office 365 Education accounts for all the students who want to play. This gives them a login for the game itself. Then (depending on the version of Office 365 Education) you can purchase Minecraft: Education Edition licenses. For this part I would reach out to your IT admin to see if they have accounts set up already.
I am going to link all of this below for you. I would also highly recommend taking our free teachers training academy on this as it will give you a deep dive into the game mechanics and how to utilize the game in your classroom! We also have a free demo lesson you can play just to get a feel for it as well without having to sign in!
