The September Build Challenge is HERE!
Honey bees have landed in Minecraft: Education Edition! Did you know that bees pollinate approximately one third of the food we eat? Pollination is an important part of the life cycle of many plants that allows them to produce fruit. Your challenge this month is to build a pollinator garden in Minecraft. Plant some crops nearby and watch what happens!

My K-6 students build this garden. We collaborated to build a flower garden, glasshouse, and bee nests.
MinecraftEdu is a powerful tool to make Ss develop collaboration skill.

We started with an inquiry finding a dead bee on our playground. We then began to research bees and looked into their importance for our ecosystems. Students also wrote informational reports about Bees, and the Minecraft Bee Challenge was a great place to show and share some of their new acquired knowledge of bees. Getting to know how bees worked in Minecraft helped my students decide how to setup their bee pollinators. Some of my students kept their flowers close to their crops, others plated trees with bee hives attached, and some built domes to keep the bees contained. Great challenge to start the school year!!!

Under My Guidence, My student Jasjot Singh from Saffron Public School, Punjab has accepted September Month #BuildChallenge BEE Creative & created his own Pollinator Garden in Minecraft Education Edition using beekeeping tools like bee-hive and bee-nest.The other tools he used to build are
- diamond hoe
- beet-root seeds
- crop seeds
By building this Polinator Garden he learnt that Bees are perfectly adapted to pollinate, helping plants grow, breed and produce food. They do so by transferring pollen between flowering plants and so keep the cycle of life turning. The vast majority of plants we need for food rely on pollination, specially by bees: from almonds and vanilla and apples to squashes.

My 16 students build the BEE world together. All of us collaborated to build a Bee world where students learnt about Bee, Why they are important, What is co-operative Bee farming, How can we make a career in it, How can we do bee farming in Urban areas.
MinecraftEdu is a beautiful tool to make students learn about collaboration, creative thinking, critical thinking, gamification. As part of the Minecraft Education: Monthly Build Challenge for September, 2020 - My student, Simar Mohanty focused on the Science behind the Pollinator Garden. Her Minecraft Project addresses the following key questions:

Great work everyone I really like the ideas about urban pollinators, the process of pollination and career opportunities. Some great next steps for me to take away and then use the next time I do this.

Minecraft EDU Team For the informational report I had my students describe the anatomy of the bee and the different types of bees we can find in North America. Next I had them look at what bees do "pollination". They had to write about how bees can pollinate flowers and the different types of pollinating bees do. Finally I had them write about why bees are endangered and what we can do to help in their survival. Great activity to start the school year!

I was so excited when this update came out! It got my 8yo interested in keeping bees. Now we have 3 bee hives thriving on our property!
