Bring back fixed inventory to make space for items like the camera and portfolio

  • Yes please, for my classrooms it was one of the best features in the game, and makes a big difference with Minecraft Vanilla.

  • I have been trying to work out why I feel it is important, and I think I have it sorted out now. I think the idea of having 'extra' slots for the camera and portfolio was better than impacting on the students 9 box hotbar. When building, sometimes 9 blocks are not enough, let alone 7 if we want students to have the camera and portfolio available.

  •  Hello Everyone,

After reviewing this popular request we wanted to provide an official update. We do not have any plans to return the fixed inventory slots at this time, although that could change down the line. They were removed for technical reasons and space constraints.

    Thank you,

    M:EE team

  • Exactly. By the time you've used up slots for camera, portfolio and a book there are precious few slots left in the hotbar. Plus they give a limitless supply of whatever is in there. So taking time out to craft torches and food doesn't detract from the learning.

Most of our worlds utilise this great feature. We do lots of narrative writing and use the fixed inventory for camera and portfolio.  The third slot is usually a map slot.  Without fixed inventory the students have lost immediate access to these valuable ‘staples’.

  • Also, if a students is playing in survival and dies they still have the materials in fixed inventory slots.

  • I use it a lot with my students as well!

Usually having the compass (so that they can go back after exploring), camera and the portfolio.

It's specially useful to be able to prepare beforehand a class where the students are playing in survival. Otherwise I would need to /give each item every-time a student enter the world.

I could do it by command_blocks but it would demand a step more than it needs today.

I don’t understand why it is even up for discussion. Why remove something that so many teachers value so highly. I don’t see any logical reason why it has been removed.

  • So far this is the most voted topic. Is there any plan on bringing it back? I'm holding some of my class activities until the next update hoping that the fixed inv slots will be there again.

Specially because might be something super easy to do.

  • Up!

I saw up there that there were some technical reasons but is it solvable? Is there any hope on receiving a positive news about it? I'm still coming here day after day to see if they (the extra slots) are going to be there again!

  • Today I just had trouble with this. I gave a math homework for my students following a adaptation of the <https://education.minecraft.net/lessons/geocaching-lesson/>. None of my students finished it because, every time that they die they lose their camera, portfolio and map. Because they were supposed to be in survival, they had to download the world again and start all over again.

After doing it 3 or 4 times, everyone left it undone and got very frustrated because they couldn't finish it. So something that was supposed to be a funny way to do a homework ended being an obstacle...

This could be easily fixed if the camera, the portfolio and map were in an fixed inventory...

Sorry for insisting but I really thing that we are losing a lot with out the fixed inventories. Were one of the best features of the M:EE...

I was just getting ready to use this feature because I knew it was in there, only to find its gone! Please reconsider adding it back to the Education Edition. It could be very helpful.

Back than you guys said that the response could change down the line. I do understand that they were removed for technical reasons and space constraints, however did the team reconsidered the chance of adding it again? It was one of the greatest differentials of the EE, so great that 2 years have passed and I still have high hopes on it (and bet that I'm not alone in this)!!

    Tks

    @...

Thanks for the follow up to this topic! As you know the fixed inventory was removed awhile ago. This was done to be able to add other elements such as Code Builder. The fixed inventory will not be making a return due to technical limitations. We definitely understand educators who utilized this feature and were disappointed at its removal from the game. The team is constantly working to improve the game in various ways. We thank you all for being active members of the Minecraft: Education Edition community!
