Yes! I was thinking the same thing...I teach language and it would be very interesting

  • Someone has developed a proximity voice chat, but not sure if it's compatible with Minecraft edu or not. :/

Elizabeth Tan this looks really great, unfortunately looks like it's a Java mod so not compatible with Minecraft: Education Edition.

Such a great idea that I came up with independently! Would be really useful to have any sort of voice chat (actually, just teacher broadcast), particularly for remote learning, but this would be even better.

This is precisely what I desperately want to have in Minecraft Edu. Online classes in Zoom are terrible, using Minecraft as both the sound medium and the classroom simulation would be amazing. And proximity chat would solve the problem of total sound mess in online classes via conference tools.

Just came across this project: https://github.com/capnmidnight/Calla - it's spatialized voice chat, with it's own little RPG-type map, based on Jitsi. I wonder if it can be modified to use Minecraft co-ordinates instead.

  • I would also really appreciate voice chat, especially a teacher broadcast option. Would prefer an option to switch between regular voice chat and proximity since bullying is still an issue in high school. I found this while Googling if this was an option!

I've seriously been trying to figure out a way around Zoom, currently thinking of streaming on Youtube as an easier way for the students to hear me. If they're on a chromebook they can't run Zoom and MEE at the same time, so I have to do something else.

What if this would connect to Microsoft Teams as an app or something. Considering that the accounts for MC:EE are compatible with Teams. This would also mean that updates for Teams could improve the audio in MC:EE without updating the game itself. I would also love if it had the same features like raising a hand and showing it as a HUD in the game.

Not a bad idea, but I think it could be abused A LOT.

this would be a great idea considering communicating via voice calls over calls while playing minecraft is very tedious, and causes a lot of lag on school computers. I hope there is an option to toggle a server-wide voice call and a call based on player proximity in-game.
