    Hi Paul,
That's an interesting scenario, thanks for raising that connection frustration. From your description is that it's possible the IP showing in the game isn't the external IP, if students are going through a different network.  To confirm the IP to connect to, they may want to use something like whatsmyip.com to see if it's different than what's showing in game.

Or students might be on different subnets on the network, which is another way connection issues can happen.  (We have that problem here in the office, just to show how common it could be.)

This should get you pointed in the right direction to help resolve things, but as always feel free to ping the team at aka.ms/meesupport when you run into tech issues. While we can't solve everyone's network issues (we have found that most networks are unique and awesome, just like our users, and as such what works for one may not work for others), we can at least help out with suggestions (like the exact ones above) and always willing to help as far as our knowledge here can take us.

Also, if you're looking for specific IP settings, those are totally on our Basic Troubleshooting page:

Some districts restrict website access to students, only enabling access to specific websites that have been allowed. Occasionally, this scenario can prevent students from logging into Minecraft: Education Edition. Your network administrator can assist with resolving this.
