Thanks for the feedback about Chromebook compatibility! Unfortunately we don't have anything to share about future development plans/platforms at this time, but we highly recommend staying tuned to our newsletter and social media channels for updates and announcements of this nature.

That is a shame about the lack of compatibility with Chromebook. I'm assuming its because of the Microsoft-Google competition?

We are taking out 30 licenses for use in our computer room but we would be far more likely to use Minecraft across the school if it worked on our Chromebooks!

I hope it isn't because of Microsoft vs Google! I'm guessing not, since we have it in our school on Macs. Hopefully they add it at some point, it would definitely enable us to have it in more classrooms. I know several teachers in my school who would embrace it if we had the capability!

  • I too hope that this compatibility comes soon! My district has switched mostly to Chromebooks for students. Having this option would mean that more classrooms could utilize this in multiple disciplines.

We'll be nearly 1:1 with Chromebooks this upcoming school year (minus 3 classrooms who don't want to be), it would be such an amazing opportunity to offer this to classroom teachers in addition to our tech lab. Here's hoping!

Dear Microsoft, I am an IT administrator for a school district in Central PA. Currently we a mixed environment of 4000 Chromebooks and 2000 Intune Windows student devices and 700 Staff Windows devices. Every child and staff member has an Office 365 account and we would like to purchase/add Minecraft for Education to our licensing.

At present, your product is not compatible with the bulk of our devices. We have considered adding this product multiple times for all users but we cannot justify the fact that it remains incompatible many of our devices. Our frustration is compounded by the fact that we are able to use the Google Play store and run the non-edu version of Minecraft.

Please make a Google Play version of Microsoft for Education for use with android devices and Chromebooks and many of these issues would be immediately solved for your user base. Thanks you in advance.

    Hi there,
Some of our students use Chromebooks, some Windows, some Mac and some Android. Very disappointing to have edu version only available to some of our students 😕

    Hi All,

Surely with the current pandemic we could move this compatibility forward?!

We would love to use Minecraft EDU as part of our remote learning experience but we are a 1-1 chromebook school.

    Please Microsoft... sort this out.
