Code Connection Issues

  • Here is a few things to check:

    1. Start with a blank project.
    2. Test first if "agent teleport to player works". Name the "on chat command" to "come".
    3. If it does not work, let me know.

If it works, there are a few things to keep in mind:
    1. Not all command names can be used for some reason. Rename the command and try again.
    2. Don't use capital letters in the command names. Check if that makes a difference.
    3. Sometimes the "Code Connection" disconnects. You will need to reconnect if that happens.
    4. Sometimes a command gets stuck because of a coding error. Use the "snail" feature to debug.
    5. Use the "stop" button if tings get stuck. Fix the code and try again.

For more tips: Check the MakeCode for Minecraft User Group on Facebook.

Thanks so much for getting back! I tried it again today, and now it seems to be working again. I don't know if there was a problem because I was working off of templates or whatever, but when I opened a blank MakeCode project into a new world, the teleport command worked. I also tried a few more short programs (you know 1000TNT was one of them!) and they all seemed to be working.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Except now it's not working. I have my classroom experimenting with it, and the "teleport to player" doesn't work. Nothing seems to be working...usually I see code running in the corner, but it's not doing that.

    Hi Jordan,

Can you share the message you get on screen when you launch Code Connector?

    Kyle,
Thanks for getting back to me. It's not that Code Connection isn't launching. It starts up fine. In fact, the Agent responds to the other coding programs (Code.org , Tynker). MakeCode opens, and I can write programs, but the Agent doesn't do them.

  • Hi Kyle,
Thanks for getting back to me. Code Connection itself launches fine. I get a window that asks me to select my program (Code.org; MakeCode; Tynker; Scratch, etc.). What's interesting is that that code.org and Tynker both work, but MakeCode doesn't.

Stranger still, it works on my MacBook Air running MacOS Sierra 10.12.6, but not on any of the computers in my school's computer lab.

  • I made a screencast of the issues I am having. Here is the link to that video:

It would appear that the connection to the Make code app is happening but nothing is coming back. This means that both outbound and inbound traffic is not permitted . Please confirm that students have the ability to send AND receive traffic over port 19131. Let me know if this helps.

  • I checked with my network administrator. He says that there is nothing blocked on port 19131. Also, the other coding programs (code.org and Tynker) work...they would also need to work over port 19131, right?

I had a similar problem that I could connect to 'Code Connection', open up MakeCode and begin coding with the blocks.
However, the Agent would NOT respond to any of the commands that I would type in the chat.

    Here was my fix:
I installed Minecraft: Education Edition and Code Connection on the Administrator account in my computer lab (all Mac computers).
However, when students logged on, they were in a separate (student) account. Although they could make the connection to MakeCode and program a set of instructions, their Agents would not respond.
I had to go back into the Administrator account, open up Minecraft: Education Edition and MakeCode and verify the programs (which I didn't do after installation) and when I went back to the student account it started to work fine.

Hello, could you please post a video link or explain in detail more where to do the verifying of the student accounts. I am having the same issue when the students are trying to code their agent. I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.
