Aleece Landis you won't need the license if your school has it! This is just for either individuals who would like it if their school doesn't have it or for camps or clubs or other organizations!

I found another thread that goes back year asking about this. Time to revisit Microsoft! There are definitely more homeschoolers now and we really would like to be able to use this as a teaching tool. Homeschooling is clearly define as a qualified educational user as stated on your website. We know that during this time there are more students being homeschooled than ever. Minecraft: Education Edition does require a valid Office 365 Education account. If you have a school account, you can check your eligibility here: https://education.minecraft.net/get-started

Unfortunately, the Minecraft: Education Edition team does not have insight into the eligibility process. For questions on specific Office 365 Education eligibility you may reach out to their team: https://support.office.com

Sorry but it's crazy to me this continues to be something Microsoft does not correct. Take my money, let my kids play the actual educational version of the product and quit giving me half built solutions using bedrock/Java.

I also wonder why this isn't being addressed. Take my money... Get positive PR, build lifetime loyality. Bedrock and Java isn't the same and saying that is just frustrating. Also the sign up form has no option for homeschooler, just educator, school admin, or it admin. The pandemic has been here and isn't going away.

It’s not hard, take the lessons that are already available and drop the office 365 educator requirement. I will pay. I have money. You run a company. Don’t you want a larger revenue stream?

We don't have EDU email addresses, so I am using my personal one (cjrice@gmail.com) I have Minecraft downloaded from this site but cannot login "This account is not eligible to use Minecraft Education Edition."3Comments

I'm hearing so much about people wanting to use M:EE but are being stopped by organisational issues that only MS can overcome. This seems such a shame. I'm sure it is just as frustrating for the M:EE team at MS but these things really shouldn't get in the way of our children's access to Education. 1 -

I agree with Pablo/Patrick. We homeschool our children and have trialled the Education edition. They love it, but their 10 logins are now up. C'mon Microsoft. How hard is it to make this available to everyone? We'd happily pay the licence fee.

Why is Minecraft Ed requiring an edu domain email address? My research says the edu domain is reserved for accredited institutions of higher learning. So if even elementary schools cannot get an edu address, how is this logical?

I've got 3 homeschoolers here that would love to get into this program, but it seems after a year there's still no space available and no where to even sign up for a waiting list? I'd really like to be informed when space is available.

This is so frustrating I have been trying to get this for the last 2 years with still no luck. Why is this so hard. I have had to buy the Minecraft workbooks(everyone I could find) and then make up my own classes and things for my homeschooler to do to teach through Minecraft because she loves it so much and it is a great teaching tool. I have set up new websites, registered my homeschool, talked to support, been put on waiting list and still nothing. I have even looked at others who have Microsoft education to sign up with them still nothing. Really over it at this point looking for something alternative to this.

I have been checking as well, and still it's full. My kids have taken the Microsoft Minecraft classes and the store, bit we can not purchase educational edition. Can you please add my name to the waiting list as well?

Please add my name o the waiting list. There's a whole lot o families wanting to get access. i purchased the officer365 but still don't have access because we are homeschoolers. So frustrating that we have kids who want to learn and parents ready to pay yet can't access it because our learning setting is different.

We are homeschooling my medically complex 14-year-old son, to date we have not been able to gain access to MM:EE. Given the recent COVID realities, and since online homeschool resources are proliferating, could Microsoft make this available to us?

During this unprecedented time we have been working to identify educational opportunities using the Minecraft Bedrock and Java editions. The Minecraft Franchise recently released a collection of free Educational worlds that can be accessed on the Bedrock version of Minecraft.
We've also created a guide to explore Learning with Minecraft Bedrock and Java. This guide has information about educational activities in the consumer versions of Minecraft, including coding in Minecraft, Chemistry, Minecraft challenges and more. Would be great for a homeschool plan! .Edu domains are reserved for post-secondary schools which means Preschool, Primary and Secondary students, whether homeschooled or not cannot participate. At Build 2020 and everything I am seeing targeted at these levels are completely un-usable outside a few hour demo.

I really do not understand why it is so hard for a company with the resources of Microsoft to fully open up the Education Edition of Minecraft for home schoolers during the exceptional conditions of this pandemic, with so many students forced to be at home.
It is something that many other much smaller organisations have done with their educational products.
Minecraft Team - you should really push harder for this within Microsoft as the current situation is very embarrassing, but conversely opening up the platform would be a great gesture.

I too am a homeschool parent and I feel it is really unfair that I can't purchase a license for my child. I agree that Minecraft and Microsoft are really dropping the ball on this plus.... they are missing a revenue stream.

This thread hasn't seen activity in a while, but I guess "me too"? I have two homeschooled kids and not only can I not get them access to Education Edition, even the Education Collection (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/marketplace/education) is coming up as a blank page for me.

Seems discriminatory to deny this to homeschoolers. Thinking that a group like HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) would be interested in looking at this from a legal perspective. At least to generate some attention at Microsoft. There is likely resistance from the education establishment which is against homeschoolers to deny access to any useful resources. Some of that is being brought into the sunshine during COVID. We'll see.
Microsft person reading this: This is an easy fix! Let's get access to all the homeschool kids so they have access to the same resources and same opportunities as other kids. Why would you say no to that?

Hi Channing Summerhays - The basic steps are:
- Set up an administrative account with Microsoft to let you purchase and manage licenses
- Purchase licenses
- Create the accounts for each of your students
- Assign licenses to the accounts
- Once the accounts are created and licenses are assigned, your students will be able to login!

I'm necroing this because I, as a homeschooling mom, really, really need access to this. There are thousands of us who are homeschooling because of the pandemic. I am also homeschooling because I have an autistic son, I'm rural without access to specialized schools and programs, and our school just doesn't have the setup to deal with his educational needs.
I am imploring you to please consider allowing individuals in similar situations to access this. I am willing to pay. I just need a way to do so.

The Post just above yours gives steps and a link to instructions about how you can buy a license to use minecraft education Edition.
I will warn, Minecraft education edition is not the best choice if you are hoping for a platform for your son to have social interaction with other kids (Unless you find a group that uses it) because ONLY people on the same tenet (same license) can play together on it. For that reason I will often recommend either Java or bedrock for Lonely homeschoolers since you will have more luck finding multiplayer opportunities there. And there are plenty of Educational resources you can use on ALL the Minecraft Editions.
The main benefits of Education Edition are a few extra teacher tools and blocks as well as the camera, portfolio and book and quill. If those tools might get your child doing creative builds, taking pictures and writing about them, then it could be worth it even if just for that reason. If you are really just looking for a social game to play with others (not in your "group") then don't bother, just use the Java or Bedrock versions.
That Said, Before the Camps and Clubs update came out, I had actually managed to talk Microsoft into letting me get a Microsoft 365 for education licenses for 1 faculty and up to 30 students (even through I only had my own to start) and I have a small homeschool minecraft education group going so you certainly can use it as a educational tool even as a Homeschooler.

I don't get why it has to be so complicated to get the Education edition. Just make it as available as the regular version. What does it matter?

Minecraft EDU Team Penny can you guys see if you guys can add experimental mode in Minecraft because i saw a lot of comments of people about them talking about experimental mode and I think it would be a really good idea to add experimental mode because addons/mods for Minecraft Edu/EE require experimental mode to be on for some features to be on so can you see if you can add that?
