When will Minecraft: Education Edition get the latest Bedrock features?

Tossing in some IT perspective, particularly on the security and privacy pieces.

I would caution the idea of using Bedrock or Java in the classroom. Education edition limits students from being able to connect to students outside of their domain. Bedrock or Java would be a free for all (in more ways than one) with students also being able to connected to anyone around the world without restrictions.

I could see some major immediate negative implications of this right away.

Education Edition is also setup for easy mass deployment (something we IT guys appreciate). Java and Bedrock were not setup for this is mind.

You won't win much support in IT or your among your security or privacy officers pursuing this route. Education Edition is hands down the way to go and won't raise a bunch of red flags.

From a mentor perspective, students ask me all the time in workshops why they don't have access to all the latest and greatest blocks. Simply put, I tell them: "Education Editions primary motivation is to put Education related elements first. There's a lot that goes into it's development and it's developers are working very hard to keep the product tuned to Education as well as making it as stable as possible and able to run all the lessons and activities that have already been produced (compatibility). Waiting for all the new swag is of course a little frustrating but, generally we do most of it eventually". Students I've worked with understand this when I put it this way, and I usually follow it up with a fun breakout discussion about what kind of features they would love to see.

One thing people around the world playing Minecraft education would appreciate is making education edition compatible with servers

Hi, @... I am getting the impression you are lovin' Minecraft Bedrock edition! =D

Of course, if it is ~all~ Bedrock, it wouldn't have cool EDU features that are custom made to help teachers like me be able to make lessons for my class a little more easily. But I would like to understand what you are most excited about in your suggestion.

The logo would need to be different so people know what version they are using, I'm guessing, but is it the typeface or style, or the background you like better? The splash screens are more interesting to you? If you could pick the three most important things, what would they be?

    Hey DR

Thanks for reaching out. Currently Minecraft: Education Edition does not officially support any mods, add-ons, texture packs, or skins. We do this to make sure the game is running as smoothly as possible for our teachers to use in their classrooms. If we ever add these features we will post the information on the official website!
