    @...

As the Bedrock/Java teams roll out exciting new features in Minecraft, our team needs some time to look over and understand how we can implement these new features in Minecraft: Education Edition. Our version of the game has unique features for use in the classroom and our team works to make sure any new features will be compatible with them. As such our version of Minecraft is typically about one update cycle behind the Bedrock/Java versions. When we have information on our next update we will be posting it on our official website!

We have no information on when the next release is. You just need to keep an eye on the website and we will announce when it is ready.

  • Atharv Dhiman thanks for adding your thoughts on having parity with Bedrock. Please see this thread where others have asked the same, and read at the top our latest response. We currently are working on this and your voice matters!

I am playing Minecraft Education Edition for 1 year and I have been playing Minecraft Java Edition for 6 months . I have noticed that there are custom skins in java but not in education . I have played the trial for bedrock and we can add custom skins in it . education edition's layout is based on the bedrock edition . so please give us an option to add custom skins and mods . I have also noticed that education edition is 2 step behind java and bedrock edition in updates . Can you add an option to change the version of education and please update the version of education as cave update is gonna come and my friends who don't have java or bedrock are crying because they don't have the nether update in education . please add the nether update in education . I hope you see my request and add the following things I said . We would be pleased if you update our version of Minecraft and add custom skins

I'm sorry https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/profiles/406000145231-Brandon-Alfaro , but sadly there is only the tool for PC and Mac because iOS does not support the opening of .mcpack files. I think there is a way, but it is a lengthy process. But, if you want to try, here is the Reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/r/MCPE/comments/c7ueos/installing_mcpacks_in_ios_13/

If this doesn't work, then there is no way for you or other iOS users to get custom skins.

Thanks for the comment though! Bye!

  • Programmers art resource pack in Education Edition

You should probably make it so the programmer's art textures are available in education edition as well... Like, y'know, as an extra resource pack to include in the game in case people like me prefer the old textures? It'd probably be disabled by default if added, though

-Thanks Jake for your feedback! Please read and subscribe to this thread for M:EE / Bedrock updates.

I presume that the Caves and Cliffs update will be released to EDU after the full version comes out for Java and Bedrock? I cannot wait for it to arrive.

Hi, I noticed to get the beta for 1.16 and 1.17, you have to download an app. You have to be thirteen to be able to get in. Is there any way you guys could maybe tell us the release date for it on the actual app?

I want to know when Minecraft Edu will update to the 1.16 as when we have free time at schools they usually play survival and want to play in the latest version so I suggest that there be a launcher that we can change the version similar to the java launcher.

    Arun Sankar

You have probably seen this already but Minecraft Education is based on the Bedrock Minecraft codebase, however we normally run about one full version behind the Bedrock production version. When we start work on our next release, we adopt the latest version of Bedrock possible based on their production cycle and how it fits into ours. Our next release will contain many of the new Bedrock features that are live today.

We do not give out release dates before the team has announced those to the public on the official website. When it is announced we will be posting it for everyone to see!

Hi there usayd12. I'm just chiming in to remind everyone that Minecraft: Education Edition does not support custom skins or third party solutions such as the app listed in the post above. Students and educators need to be very cautious when using tools as the one listed.

  • Feedback based on a month of building a world

I got tasked by my university to create a world for simulating a product development process and after a month of building it I thought I would release a longish post here detailing all my hurdles and wishes for the future. I have background in Java technical Minecraft and command block creations and have been viewing the teaching experience creation through that experience.

Let's start with some positives: the game runs much smoother than the Java version ever could hope to and barrier, deny and allow blocks are awesome tools. However, I have been let down again and again by the more technical side, or the lack thereof of the version. Here is everything I would have wanted to do in the version but haven't been able to because of lack of features.

1: Display scoreboard values in a personal UI:

With the world revolving around managing budgets and interacting with rival businesses, being able to display budgets to only certain players would be a crucial feature. It is a shame, teams, scoreboard data usage in JSON and data merging into signs is removed, because those are the three main options to display this data to certain people I would have used in Java edition.

    2: Organize teams

I am honestly quite baffled by the lack of /team support in the education edition. I quess with younger students the version doesn't want to encourage competition or something? I have got around most team features with tags, but this just seems like a must have and would also enable personalised UI with “/scoreboard objectives setdisplay team” functionality while also streamlining map creation.

    3: Recipe management

The original idea for the world was to simulate Research and Development -work done in a business by locking all recipes and allowing businesses to invest in research to unlock them again. It's a shame /recipe is only supported in Java version as I found out recently.

    4: Server hosting

The world was originally meant to be up for a week for the students to be able to engage in the product development process on their own time, but after looking into Education Edition features, apparently server hosting is not supported and we have been forced to look for alternate methods.

5: Full tellraw and execute functionality

This was the only part I knew would not function equally from the start but I never knew how much behind these features were before I was trying to use them. Frankly using more advanced commands in Education Edition feels archaic, but that was the one thing I was prepared to suffer through.

I wholeheartedly support the effort that is going into Education Edition and understand I should have done more thorough research into the capabilities of the tool I am using instead of assuming the things I do in Java would work here as well. However maybe because Microsoft/Mojang marketing has pushed the idea of Bedrock and Java having feature parity, it feels frustating that the supposed professonial version has been constricting my ability to create a functional and polished learning experience.

The deadline for this project is soon enough that I know this post will not help me personally, but I hope this post encourages bringing more detailed automation tools into the arsenal of educational map creators in the future. Maybe I get to make a version 2.0 of our map at some point and actually feel satisfied, instead of feeling like doctor Frankenstein scraping together a monster made out of compromises and would haves.

  • Education Edition Update Please

Minecraft Education Edition is a great learning tool for my students but the new 1.16.1 update has new features like trading and that would be very helpful for my classroom.

    High Hopes, Jaden Dyson
