We are thrilled to announce that we've released the GOAT beta, which contains both the Nether update (1.16) and the Caves and Cliffs part 1 release (1.17)!   For information about the release check out this article: https://aka.ms/MEEBeta

Our betas normally last 4-6 weeks before we release to general availability.

  • Wait, the next update is gonna be the latest version of minecraft bedrock? Will the next update of minecraft edu have a marketplace? (from minecraft bedrock)

    3

In the next update, will there be a 'use experimental gameplay' option?

Also, will the pause screen look different? (like this)

Hey at least we can still find nether fortresses in education edition because the 1.16 nether update all but removed fortresses.

So why not just merge the versions together? M:BE already has education mode in it, so why not just use a modified version of that?

As the Bedrock/Java teams roll out exciting new features in Minecraft, our team needs some time to look over and understand how we can implement these new features in Minecraft: Education Edition. Our version of the game has unique features for use in the classroom and our team works to make sure any new features will be compatible with them. As such our version of Minecraft is typically about one update cycle behind the Bedrock/Java versions. When we have information on our next update we will be posting it on our official website!

Hello Im kinda new with minecraft education edition i just wanted to know if it would be able to download mods

  • AdamS

    Hey DR

Thanks for reaching out. Currently Minecraft: Education Edition does not officially support any mods, add-ons, texture packs, or skins. We do this to make sure the game is running as smoothly as possible for our teachers to use in their classrooms. If we ever add these features we will post the information on the official website!

    Experimental Gameplay option

When I was looking for an addon to add more exotic wildlife into the game to expand the list of animals I could talk about for my students, I noticed most of them require ‘Experimental Gameplay’ to be enabled in the world settings. So, I looked in the settings in-game, didn't find it. I looked for in the options panel of my world in the World Selection menu. Still didn't find it. I decided to look for information online to help me in my little quest. I found a few pages that show it located in the options panel on the World Selection menu underneath the ’Simulation Distance’ slider. I went their figuring I might have looked over it when searching for it, mistaking it for the other options. Turns out, it isn't there. I'm hoping in the next update be it 1.17, 1.18, or whatever the next update will be, we'll be able to enable it for our worlds. Thanks for reading my wishlist post!

      Hi Joseph,

Experimental Gameplay is a feature that is in the consumer "Bedrock" version of Minecraft that allows you to run content that is still in development.

It is not currently in the Education edition.

I'd like to see more creatures too!

Can we add the items from 1.16, It fun having new stuff added into the game not only that but some people don't have the money to buy the actual game and experience these things which is really sad and if you think about adding more stuff expands the users imagination.

    • Bryan Sanders COMMUNITY MODERATOR

Usually the Education Edition is behind the Java edition with the newest items added ... so, stay tuned! It's coming!

    •

To clear this up... MC:EE is 1 version behind (*cough* for some reason they decided to put in R14 and R15 at the same time so it was technically 2 versions behind *cough*) as of the current update. But if there was an official way to mod MC:EE... we could add our own stuff. Something like a visual modding program.

I want to know when Minecraft Edu will update to the 1.16 as when we have free time at schools they usually play survival and want to play in the latest version so I suggest that there be a launcher that we can change the version similar to the java launcher.

    Arun Sankar

You have probably seen this already but Minecraft Education is based on the Bedrock Minecraft codebase, however we normally run about one full version behind the Bedrock production version. When we start work on our next release, we adopt the latest version of Bedrock possible based on their production cycle and how it fits into ours. Our next release will contain many of the new Bedrock features that are live today.

We do not give out release dates before the team has announced those to the public on the official website. When it is announced we will be posting it for everyone to see!

One question I always had is why we don't have achievements? I have played Minecraft 2 years since it got out and since I'm in school and want to play Minecraft but we don't have achievements which kind of makes it boring for me. I also was wondering when the latest version of Minecraft will come to Education Edition.

  • Atharv Dhiman thanks for adding your thoughts on having parity with Bedrock. Please see this thread where others have asked the same, and read at the top our latest response. We currently are working on this and your voice matters!

I am playing Minecraft Education Edition for 1 year and I have been playing Minecraft Java Edition for 6 months . I have noticed that there are custom skins in java but not in education . I have played the trial for bedrock and we can add custom skins in it . education edition's layout is based on the bedrock edition . so please give us an option to add custom skins and mods . I have also noticed that education edition is 2 step behind java and bedrock edition in updates . Can you add an option to change the version of education and please update the version of education as cave update is gonna come and my friends who don't have java or bedrock are crying because they don't have the nether update in education . please add the nether update in education . I hope you see my request and add the following things I said . We would be pleased if you update our version of Minecraft and add custom skins

My students were asking about the nether update. I think it is useful as they want to explore new areas in minecraft and get bored. It would be nice to know when the nether update is coming to minecraft education edition? Thanks.

Sorry for the news but the nether update is most likley not going to come for a while. If you look at the pinned message at the Technical Q&A thread they say why.

They wait till the last possible revision of the current version before updating as they want everything to be stable. This means we will always pretty much be at least one version behind

The nether update is definitely a cool addition to the game, but there are plenty of unique and rare biomes to explore in the over world too. I have always liked mapping and exploring worlds. I recently found a biome finder website that is really amazing. You might really enjoy it as a geography teacher. Check it out:

Hi! I was wondering if Minecraft: Education Edition was going to get the update where you can get the “new recipes” pop up in the upper right corner when mining new blocks and/or picking up new items, and the update where achievements pop up at the bottom. Example: YaGirlLo made the achievement: Diamonds! That’s all I was wondering. Thank you!

I've found a way to add custom skins!

Hey Education Community, I have found a way to add custom skins!

So, you can make your skins for java and bedrock on any website and download it to the launcher, right?

Before you couldn't do that in Education Edition, but now you can!

First, you make your skin like normal, and then there is an skin .mcpack creator from some guy on GitHub!

Once you have downloaded the .mcpack file, import it and go to your skins section.
Your skin will automatically be there!

I've tested it and it works! But you'll need to do this individually for each skin you want to import :)

Well, that's a new feature I figured out that is possible guys!
The link to the .mcpack creator: Custom Skin Compiler for Minecraft

See ya guys! Can't wait for the Nether Update to come to us ;)

By the way, here is proof:
    3
  • the version updates should be added the same time they are relased

Hi there usayd12. I'm just chiming in to remind everyone that Minecraft: Education Edition does not support custom skins or third party solutions such as the app listed in the post above. Students and educators need to be very cautious when using tools as the one listed.
