Unable to connect to world after reinstall

Ok. Slept on this last night.

After transferring the myworld files into the new instance of MEE I can view all worlds saved by both my previous installation of MEE and the regular version of Minecraft I had stored on my PC. The installation of the regular version preceded the installation of MEE. It is clear then that in my installation the regular Minecraft and MEE have been sharing resources.

The world browser in my new installation of MEE "sees" all of the worlds I had saved in regular MEE and these worlds load correctly in MEE. Anything I had created previously in MEE will not load. Previously both versions only "saw" the versions created by that version. Significant I think?

Any new worlds I create in MEE load correctly.

So, my concern is now this. If I manage to find a work-around to get my previous Challenge Arena world to load, this does not necessarily mean that it is going to be something I can share does it? - which was the whole point of the project.

My heart is sinking somewhat - I've devoted inordinate amount s of time to this and I really don't think I have the capacity to start again at this late stage. Eeek!

Just to add.... notice how the world browser does not pick up the level name for worlds created in my previous version of MEE, but does pick up the names of those created in regular Minecraft. Interestingly the text files for the MEE worlds level names has been changed to "My World". Even if I edit the level name and check that it is saved before and after I try and run the world (the change is persistent) the World browser in game does not pick up the name.

If there is any help for this out there I would be grateful to to be pointed towards it please. Thank you.

Hopefully a user that creates worlds and shares them will have better insight on this. From what I am understanding is that the old worlds are keeping the name they had on the newer version. Try changing them on the older version first before moving to the new system. As for sharing I would export them from the older client, so you have that copy and then import them to the newer version. That way you have an older copy and the newer copy to share to users in case they do not have the same version as you.

  • Thanks.
Dominick Big question, which is the newer version? As I see it my MEE worlds think they were created by the always up-to-date Windows Minecraft installed on the same machine. So when I try to load them with MEE, which I assume is an older build, even though it is the most up to date download available, MEE complains that the worlds were created by a newer version.
I've tried swapping the DB file out of a World created by the newly installed MEE but beyond that I don't know what I am doing. MEE isnt even reading the level name in the text file worlds created on the previous installation, though it will read them from the Windows version. I don't think it can "see" these files.
I can't seek to replicate the environment I had before (MMEE+Windows Edition on the same PC) as I need to be sure that the files I intend to share will run on MEE elsewhere. As it happens, I'm guessing the error is hard wired into my worlds which were never going to run on someone else's installation of MEE, so perhaps better to find out now rather than later-on, but, still throwing away a huge investment in time.
I've started to build again, and will spend a day tomorrow. Should be quicker given I have already solved the design issues..... and this time begin with a deny and barrier block sublayer instead of undermining the whole site after the building has gone up!
Bryan Sanders Thanks for the contact Dan Noble Really would appreciate any thoughts if you have the time? Thank you

So at this time users may have three versions running. The older version is 1.17. The current live version is at 1.18 and the Beta we offer is at 1.19. Our website has the live version 1.18, but you can opt into the Beta here: Download Minecraft Education Beta to upgrade to 1.19. Hope that helps.
