Licenses purchased by a non-admin
Who will this impact?
Organizations that own licenses in the Store for Education that were purchased by non-admins. An admin has purchase and/or user management permissions in the organization's M365 tenant.
On April 1, 2023, there will be a price increase for Minecraft Education. See below for details.
Subscription migration
On March 31, 2023, license purchase and assignment for Minecraft Education subscriptions will be migrated to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
The admin center doesn’t offer the ability for non-admin users to buy or assign licenses for a tenant, so we can’t migrate licenses bought by users that aren’t admins. There are three options to renew your Minecraft Education subscriptions after March 31, 2023:
- Contact your IT Lead to see if your school already has access to Minecraft Education licenses through other license bundles.
- A Global Administrator or Billing Administrator for your organization can buy new licenses in the admin center. Contact the IT Lead for your school to have them purchase new licenses or ask them to grant you a Billing Administrator role in your tenant.
- If you would like to manage licenses in your tenant, you can request a User Administrator role.
- If your tenant does not have an owner, you can follow these steps to become the administrator for your tenant.
How will this impact my current subscription?
We will honor all current subscriptions to their expiration date, however subscriptions owned by non-admins will not renew. All organizations with subscriptions that have an expiration date before June 30, 2023 will have access to Minecraft Education until June 30, 2023. Organizations with subscriptions that have an expiration date of July 1, 2023 or later will have access to Minecraft Education until their subscription expiration date
